Oh, but this bears mentioning:

System Requirements.

I play on a laptop, but it's one of the reasons I don't go up against the big boys.

Ah. I think EVE supported Linux at one time, but no longer.

You might be able to find a work-around on the 'net, but I wouldn't bother . . . too many scams out there.

bump

I wonder if I can get someone to send me an Windows Vista installation or something. Something even this older (relatively speaking) putter can handle.

Any human activity can be addictive and most of them cost money. We get defensive because we are tired of snobs insulting an activity they know little or nothing about. Yes it can be addictive. So cal stamp collecting. SO can alcohol but lots of people drink anyway. If you hear some folks talking about their favorite beer and you loudly say ‘booze is a waste of money and destroys lives’ then you wouldn’t be surprised if they get pissed off and defensive. If you then said, ‘HAH! you are defensive so I am right!’ well it would be pretty clear to everyone in the bar that you were a loudmouth troublemaker getting your jollies off of being annoying.

This is so stupid.

When I was about 10 I liked to watch Star Trek, but I wouldn't watch it now.

I like star trek but not this game.

That makes me cooler than you.

I’m not sure if I like anything anymore. Except my cat. How’s your cat?

At any given time, there are 30,000 to 40,000 (on average, the number can break 50,000) characters online.

Hmmmm...

Thats 30,000 to 40,000 kids who could be out playing catch, doing sports, spending time with siblings or other family, getting chores done, learning a new skill that someone might pay them for someday...

Or thats 30,000 to 40,000 adults who are contributing nothing to family or society during these online sessions...

I am glad I am just old enough to have missed this obsession when I was growing up.

How’s your cat?

This should inform you.

I hope your comment was just lack of information, and not anything else...

Sorry to see that belatedly.

I discovered the purpose of money, used to treat my little girl and make her as comfortable as possible

That's the purpose of my time on earth. I wush I were home more, but I try to make up for it when I am. I am going to take your advice from a previous thread and take her to the vet to get her checked.

I never said anything was a waste of time and money. I said _I_ wasn’t interested in that model of game, making no judgement about anybody else. Then I pointed out that the language people use around the game doesn’t make it sound enjoyable, and bore a close resemblance to alcoholism. Again no judging, no accusing, simple observations. Everything else is stuff YOU added. Don’t blame me if you find the content you added offensive, you added it.

Or you could say that is 30 thousand that are doing something that is social (because it is) instead of just watching brain rotting TV. When I played EVE I played with my wife. I know personally some my friends at that same time were watching TV in separates rooms because they did not like the same shows as their spouse.

Agreed...what is the difference of playing a computer game vs watching t.v. or reading a book? Now, if we are talking about people who’s lives revolve around online games and are obsessed and play all day/night...that is a different story.

It looks like a lot of fun. I started a business this year and the wife is going to school so I have a lot to manage. It looks like I will have to pass on even a trial. I will stick to Skyrim on the Xbox.

Full disclosure: I only play EVE Online, Alpha Centauri/Alien Crossfire (that I believe first issued in 1999), and chess on my computer.

Oh, and then I have a virtual (not roto) soccer team. I only responded because "Skyrim" cracks me up whenever I see the word.

I will agree with you on the brain rotting TV comment. There is really little if anything on TV worth watching anymore. And if your sharing the game activity, then I wont criticize that. It just seems like too many tune out reality in favor of the fantasy with a “comic book guy” mentality. And I still dont feel like I missed anything by skipping out on the online game trend.
