STO gives you a lot more direct control, but make no mistake it’s an action game. Gear is something you buy or work towards but the real fun is “Wheee, I’m flying a starship!”.

EVE is a very, very different game, not my sort of thing at all, but to each their own.

The free accounts for STO are pretty well off if you have any inclination to try it. It’s not bad at all to just jump right in.
