Excellent memory jogger, by the way, I used to live in Olympia in the early 70s, it was a beautiful place.

The most pleasant places in America, if they even exist anymore, are low-crime communities with kids mowing lawns or doing their homework, dad washing the car, and an apple pie cooling on the sill next to a front door that really doesn’t need a deadbolt. These drug-culturphiles think that a peppering of head shops smelling of incense and a variety of glass pipes somehow “offsets” the relative inconvenience of vomit in the street, panhandlers, bars on windows, and tattered rave fliers staplegunned to every pole.

A REAL hippie wouldn’t even know what “Facebook” is.

The real ones would be approaching retirement age (assuming they ever got a haircut and a job).

I went to college in New Paltz, NY. Playboy rated us #1 in the small college category. It was fun :)

I live on the Olympic Peninsula (thank God) and this is why my wife doesn’t take me out very often. LOL

I KNEW libtard Austin, TX had to be on the list and sure enough it's #9.

The city has more hippie-themed Meetups than any city in the country, as well as Hippie Hollow, a clothing optional nudist park where hippies can recreate in the buff. The popularity of Hippie Hollow is evidenced by a simple Google image search of “Austin Hippie,” which turns up far too many NSFW photos of these naked folks. Austin is also home to 12 local shops advertising hemp products, the “Hippie Church” at the local Taco Xpress, and thousands of locals ardently working to Keep Austin Weird.

I figured Asheville, NC would be on up there and it is, #3. It started with the new agers, then the wiccans, then the hippies. It’s a beautiful little city, lots of grand depression-era structures downtown, largely intact. Surrounded by the Smokies, all manner of outdoor sports and activities, natural beauty. I don’t mind hippies for short periods of time, so I like to visit on occasion. A weekend about does it. Couldn’t live there.

During my Seattle years, I spent quite a bit of time in Olympia, but it was working with the legislature on rail-related issues, not weed. I viewed downtown Olympia as a bit funky, but not particularly strange.

“the place where hipsters go to have kids”.

The cable TV show called Portlandia, which was spawned in Olympia, opens the show saying of Portland - "The place where young people go to retire".

I used to say that my life is defined by Seinfeld. But there now is a strong Portlandia influence.

In short, I’m screwed up !!

Sounds nice! If you noticed, Ithaca, NY, is 7th on the list. Home of Ithaca College and Cornell University, the smell of patchouli is on the air! :-) It's a beautiful area though, on the southern end of Cayuga Lake, one of the Finger Lakes and there's lots of gorges and waterfalls in the area.
