Just a heads up, if you're stuck with Windows 8 there is a free program called "CLASSIC SHELL" which gives you a start button. You can even choose to simulate XP.
I'm stuck with this rig, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna put up with it!
8.1 makes some tweaks but doesn’t restore the old GUI.
Go to top of the App -page, see the hand icon?
Drag it to the bottom, the app will close.
Easier.
I remember people not knowing how to change the tape in a typewriter. The never learned because they never had to.
I have been using Linux Ubuntu since the old HDD crashed and burned. I have an opportunity to install Windows 7 Home Premium.
I can always put Linux Ubuntu on a USB and use when I feel like, I think. Does this sound like a good option?
My personal solution would be to install Linux on the it, and run Windows as a VM.
I never did like the VM thing, and I couldn’t get anything like that to work. And I doubt that Windows 7 would run off a USB like Linux Ubuntu does.
MO Fun!
Even in these days of UEFI and signed bootloaders? I’ve not yet had to confront this but figure that one day I will have to. I think for now things can mostly be coerced to work but maybe not always?
I’m a little late to the party, but a week ago I was forced to buy a new laptop and, of course, it has windows 8. Toshiba also put their own desktop on as a tile so all the familiar things from windows 7 are available too. I’m actually starting to like it since multi-tasking has never been easier. I don’t think I would like it in a tile only environment, but this combination is working out very well for me.
