:)
Can you imagine all the great cigars she smoked by association? And made it to age 16!! Who says second hand smoke kills? Ha!
Being Rush’s cat, I’m sure she is causing mischief in kitty cat heaven, demanding cigar smoke be pumped in now and again. :-)
Nobody puts Punkin in a corner!
(RIP, Furball. I loved Rush’s stories about you)
My one cat whom I still miss (Big Kitty) lived until almost 20 years old. My other cat (Little Kitty) just died last year in my arms, on my birthday no less. She was 15. I had both of their ashes spread at a lovely cat cemetery quite close to where I live. I think about getting another cat one day, but now is not the time.
Sometimes I still think Little Kitty is going to come running up and greet me at the door when I arrive home, but it is a mirage. My sympathies to Rush. I know only too well what he is going through. Those furry little creatures worm their way into your heart, and leave a gigantic hole in it when they are gone. RIP Punkin.
If I remember correctly, when Rush married his 3rd wife Marta, she came with a couple of cats. Until that time he had been a dog person, and really didn’t know cats. He soon came to find that cats have their own mystique, and mentioned it on radio. Being a cat person myself, I was delighted to hear that, but not surprised. I have seen this in several men, who never gave a thought to a cat until they finally lived with one.
I’m happy that Rush had such love for Punkin — and Punkin in turn for Rush. The pictures tell it all.
Goodbye Punkin
Rush -- you have my condolences. Punkin looked like a real sweetheart.
I love your picture of Crooktail, and the way she has her tail wrapped around her paw! I have 2 right now, a tortie and a calico, and except for the colors, my calico Daisy has Crooktail’s markings, and the same dear face.
We lost our 14 year old mutt aka dumpster kitty rescue project ‘Angel’ the same time,, a mass in her abdomen, not unusual in cats of this age., we opted to let her go peacefully rather than go the surgery or chemo route.. sadly, we have been there done that before.. too many times.
Pumkin’s been there through his addiction, through losing his hearing, through ups and downs in relationships. That’s what animals do. My son who was sick for many years had a sweet Maine Coon named Boris. He hung in there until he knew our son was okay and had a wonderful woman to take care of him and then at the age of 19, he died. Some of these guys are really special.
The night or night after we finally had to bring our cat to the vet for the end, and she was laid to rest in our back yard,I woke up in bed and definitely heard the sounds of her coming up the stairs and hopping on and off the bed. We feel she was letting us know she was home and was ok. Someone told my wife they will do this for up to 40 days before they go to heaven.
I wouldn’t normally believe this, but I know what I heard.
you nasty boy!!
Poor little sweetie...and poor Rush. It’s so, so hard to lose a beloved pet.
What a beautiful baby she was....look at those emerald eyes.
What a handsome boy.
...a true friend that never once asked anything from you but your love. You have my sympathy.........
Rush, if you’re lurking here, I want to say thank you for your stories of Punkin over the years. I remember when you were NOT a cat person, and some of the things you said.
Getting the love of any animal is something that changes your heart. It’s a special gift from The Lord. But getting the love of a “kitteh” is even more special, because here’s an animal who doesn’t just give their love to anyone, unconditionally. You have to earn it, but once you get it, that love IS unconditional.
All I can say is I hope that The Lord grants you peace in the memories of your dear little Punkin, and I hope with all my heart that the story of “Rainbow Bridge” is true, as there are a few “fur babies” I’ve lost over the years with whom I hope to eventually be reunited.
Sincerely,
Mark
Wow! You had a kitty named crooktail? My buddy, Crookedtail, passed away three years ago. I still lose it thinking about him. He lived to be 20. Less than a year later his buddy Goose the cat passed away. The house was so empty ...
