At what point in the relationship do girlfriends or wives start choosing their man's clothing?

I've gotten used to people confusing me with someone wearing a Bus Driver uniform. That is how bland and consistently nondescript I look most the time. Once I know things fit well and match, my mind is no longer on clothing per se. Not my quote, so all the rest of your post is misdirected.

I live in the deep south. 9 months out of the year I have the same uniform. A t-shirt and gym shorts. If I must go somewhere , I transition my wardrobe to cargo shorts, a polo shirt of some sort and sperry’s with no socks. OTOH, I sometimes wonder why they never made Garanimals for big kids

I an not an expert on this, but I read once while sitting in a doctor’s office in one of those magazines that write about these things in depth.
They had an expose on women who like to dress their men and take pleasure in not only walking them through the aisles and holding out the clothes and having them try on each piece as you describe.
They did an in depth study with 100 women who did this. They had them fill out a questionaire and followed them for over an year. The conclusion was the habit started when the women saw the first skid mark on their mans drawers..

I'm a fan of women buying clothes for men. It's something most men can allow with a minimum of fuss that most women enjoy out of all proportion. It is not unusual for my wife to mention when and where she got me a particular item, so I know it is important to her. Why not if she enjoys it so much (and has a MUCH better eye for such things than I do).
I draw the line though at business clothes (at least for lawyers and businessmen). Clothing in those professions is just like for a soldier or an airline pilot, and one must wear the uniform. Unless the wife/girlfriend genuinely understands that uniform and has no desire to update it or to add flair or style, a woman who likes shopping for her man should limit her efforts to the remainder of the wardrobe - what her man wears in the evenings, on weekends, and on vacation.

Many years ago I worked with a man who was color blind. We could always tell when he dressed himself, LOL.

Step 2 choose the clothing for the man

Closest I ever came to that was accepting clothing gifts from various girlfriends over the years.
Thankfully I had set a high bar for them in what I wore - quality and style (rather conservative except for a brief fling with "Hawaiian shirts)
Now, my wife, well I'm glad I came into the marriage equipped with a full wardrobe. She has absolutely "leather taste buds" clothing wise. I usually buy for her...and she (and I) am very glad I do.
Heck, I only wear about 1/4 of what I have. There is just little need for 'dressing up' other than the occasional full suit for bidness reasons...which I try to discourage.

I buy my own clothes but I’ve always sought advice. Guys like me who are red/green color blind do that.

I don’t need a woman’s help to pick out a white button-down Oxford dress shirt.

Good Morning Jemian! Great to see you...
For the record, I pick out my own clothes. My wife knows this and doesn't even bother to see what works for me. I dress professionally for work, and jeans and flannel shirts on weekends. Summers are shorts and t-shirts around the house.

9 12 months out of the year I have the same uniform. A t-shirt and gym/swimming trunks shorts. If I must go somewhere , I transition my wardrobe to cargo shorts, a polo shirt of some sort and sperrys with no socks Teva sandals. There it is.
If I have to "dress-up" to meet a client...I automatically add about 25% to their bill.
I got my standards ya know.

I had a college friend who was color blind - and he worked in a clothing store. (Banana Republic, iirc ... tells you how long ago this was ;-). He was a very successful salesman, because he told the customers they looked great in every combination!

I once had a girlfriend who decided to pick out some shirts at Macys.
She was what I thought a cool girl until she started grabbing shirts
with orange, red, pink with stripes and very metro looking.
That day didn't end well.

Life is simple at our house. My husband tells me what he needs, I ask him what color he wants, and I order it from Lands End or LLBean. We’re both happy because he always looks good, and he’s always comfortable.
If he needs fishing or hunting attire he orders it from Cabela’s or Gander Mt.
I has never occurred to me to drag him through a store and hold shirts up to him as if he were a 6 year old.
