NRA Compiles Secret Gun Registry, Leading to ZOT!
Western Shooting Journal ^ | 8/21/2013 | J Hin

Posted on 08/21/2013 9:04:34 AM PDT by rover3

NRA historically has preached and campaigned against the threat of a national database of firearms or their owners. But, in fact NRA themselves housed over 10 million information on gun owners. Unclear of NRA's motives but the data may be used as a marketing weapon to focus in on converting gun owners to dues-paying NRA members. Who knows, what do you all think? Read the article for more.

I am not sure if I trust the NRA any more than I do the Federal Government.

Rover3 joined Freee Republic on August 5, 2013 and is now posting things critical of the NRA.

The NRA maintains a membership list...no duh? Really? What organization doesn’t maintain a membership list? Free Republic has one, too. Is that proof of some wild conspiracy? Of course not.

The accusation against the NRA is nothing more than a smear tactic and I find it HIGHLY suspicious that someone who just joined FR would troll something like this.

Make your own firearm. That way it is not on the books at all.

Here we go.

I can’t say I’d be shocked. Fact is, private corporations maintain extensive databases on pretty much everybody. Your ISP maintains a database, and don’t get me started on the credit reporting agencies.

Hell, the people at Experian - or Equifax, TransUnion or Innovis - probably know what time you drop a deuce in the morning, and whether you do before or after breakfast. And they also know what you have for breakfast.

Corporate databases make anything the NSA has pale in comparison. I worked for a credit reporting agency in the late 1990s and I can assure FR readers, if you have a financial history, they know everything. Ever paid a bill? Ever been late on a bill?

They’ll know about it.

Totally misleading headline and irresponsible reporting for a gun magazine. Just wants hits / readers.

Aw Geez, here we go again. SOS.

The NRA represents you to the Congress. It pays to join and stay joined.

And by the way, 10 million gun owners, half of whom no longer belong, is a constituent base that can really hurt politicians. Big Time.

I also raised an eyebrow (spok-like, if you will)

The NRA keeps a membership list of folks that voluntarily joined and made “donations”. This is not an unusual practice. Among a couple of complaints I have, their tireless spamming (snail and electronic mail) is quite annoying.

Otherwise, we have to thank the NRA, whether we find a few faults here are there or not. They have been very influential as a pro 2A lobby group and legal support entity. I am glad they are out there and continue to support their agenda to combat gun rights restriction legislation.

Not sure what “over 10 million information on gun owners” is... A little proof reading goes a long way to establishing any sort of credibility here...

Look, here is the difference: joining the NRA is voluntary, and it is not a governmental agency.

Clear? Stop tyring to stir the pot, so to speak.

Enough. Done.

Did they also set them up the bomb?

I am a Life member and thru all the years I was a member the NRA never asked me for a serial number or a list of firearms that I own. This is nothing but a back door smear campaign, against an organization that puts everything into the protection of the 2nd amendment. The Government will just have to make being a member illegal and then get the members list.
Come and take them!

This sounds like complete BS. ZOT material.

The NRA may assume I am a gun owner because I am a member, but there is no information that the state/local and federal government would have on the types of weapons I own, unless they are breaking current law.
