GLAAD finds movies lag behind TV in LGBT roles

We may be seeing more prominent gay and lesbian characters on TV shows, but the movie industry lags well behind the small screen, an advocacy group reports.

In its first study of LGBT roles in major studio releases, the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation found that compared with TV, where there has been a significant shift over the past decade, “Major studios appear reluctant to include LGBT characters in significant roles or franchises.”

In its report released Wednesday, GLAAD found that of the 101 releases from Hollywood’s six major studios in 2012, just 14 included characters identified as lesbian, gay, or bisexual. Most were no more than cameos or minor roles, it said—and none of the films tracked had transgender characters.

“Until LGBT characters appear more regularly in these studio films, there will be the appearance of bias,” said Wilson Cruz, GLAAD’s national spokesperson, in an interview. He added that his organization will be meeting with studio executives to discuss the findings. …

Do we get to count Lord of the Rings trilogy to beef up the count?

Another reason why I'm particularly selective of any movies made after 1996 or so.

It is amazing how much quality and thought went into script writing before the total moron takeover of Hollywood.

People feel they’re paying directly at a movie theater and there are not enough of them to make homo themes or characters pay-off at the box office.

My guess is the movies don't have roles for perfect people.

It is to be known that every gay character portrayed has to be the most noble, kind, wise and funny character in the show.

Disney’s movie Powder (about an albino) was directed by a man-boy-lover.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powder_(film)

Controversy

The film’s production by Disney resulted in a controversy over the choice of director Victor Salva, who had been convicted of molesting a 12-year-old child actor in 1988. When Powder was released, the victim came forward again in an attempt to get others to boycott the film in protest at Disney’s hiring Salva. Since then, Disney has not picked up any more pictures by Salva.[2][3]

While I realize that you're just making a joke, it's interesting that in today's culture it's almost impossible to portray true, deep friendship between two men without the implication that they're "gay" for each other.

I was flying back from South Africa just a couple of days ago and was too tired to read but couldn't go to sleep (I was in the cattle car section, after all), so I was watching movie after movie, and watched the film, "On The Town" (1949) with Gene Kelly and Frank Sinatra. Toward the end, after Gene thinks he's lost his new girlfriend (Vera Ellen), Frank is comforting him, saying "I know how tough you're taking this, kid", to which he replies, "I know you know...that's why I love you". They then walk back to their friends, Frank's arm around Gene's shoulders.

A scene that would never be in a movie today.

This is becoming the mantra. If you do not CELEBRATE "gay pride", you are "anti" homosexual.

You must cheer the lifestyle. So much for "freedom of choice".

General Mills decided this year to proclaim the "'Lucky' to be gay" twitter campaign.

What's "unlucky" about being heterosexual?

The culture has been perverted by self-absorbed immature freaks.

Okay then, Michael Jackson was a repeat accused pedophile with Hollywood stars who’ve even made molestation allegations.

He was also world renowned as the King of Pop.

He was still a vile person. Same boat as Ian.

And Ian has outlived many of his generation but was NOT a superior actor to those of his birth generation who’ve passed on.

Thank goodness for TCM.

What a Conservative father wants to do after a day of drudgery trying to earn more money for the clueless central socialist government to spend, and the children slaving away learning about how evil America’s history is and mother taking care of her family is to sit down in front of their television set and watch homosexuals groping and coupling with one another.

What, in the name of God, could possibly be entertaining about watching homosexuals and lesbians prance about and talk about their trysts and dalliances?

It might entertain Barney Fwank, but Barney is hardly indicative of a normal human being; in fact, no homosexual is normal. They’ve devoted their lives to wallowing in filth and obscenity and now want you to watch them for entertainment.

I say banish all sodomists to a remote Hawaiian Island, or reactivate Alcatraz....that way they’ll be close to their favorite city on the bay.

I was thinking of Corey Haim.

A friend says it chilled him that Michael had a “memory” for boys that interested him.

There was some project my friend worked on. Michael learned the man had a son and invited him over for something or other. They never went.

Around 2 years later, (and I forget the circumstances of the communication/encounter) but Michael remembered the name of the man’s son, asked how he was doing, and again extended an invite. He event sent a signed photo to the man (who kept it from his son at the time, and has mentioned it to the son now grown to adulthood, who does not want it).

Wow. These perverts are really sharp!
Apparently they haven't noticed that every otherwise entertaining TV series in the last few years which chose to show protracted and in your face gratuitous explicit gay activity which added nothing to the plot met a quick rejection and slow death.

A few come to mind...

Torchwood.
Revenge.
Stargate Universe.
Several more which, after I erased them from my hard drives, I try not to think about again.

Clueless, these producers. ay

I strongly suspect that movie studios are still normal businesses, not propaganda arms for every deviant who slithers by.
So pressure by the perverts, unless they have money to throw at their propaganda, will go nowhere.

Fortunately, the deviants have yet to achieve legislation to force me to buy a ticket to see a pervert movie.
