The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you.
This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked.
It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread ... there is no telling where it will go and that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

Watch that compost. The big compost fire up towards St. Louis is all the news around here.LOL At least you have some figs and pears this year. Better than a stick in the eye.LOL
Hubby has a rain gauge. I may have seen it years ago. I have no idea what kind or anything. He tells me what it says from time to time.
I just leave a 5 gallon bucket outside, and use it to estimate small shower vs medium vs gully washer.LOL
I haven’t had enough of any one thing to can for a while, and no room in the freezer for small batches which is what I usually do.
Just keep eating as fast as I can. At least I am having no trouble getting the 5 to 9 servings of fruit and veggies.LOL
Good news on the peppers then. So glad for you.
Don’t worry I turn the pile almost every day, lets the heat dissipate. It will not self combust.
From your description, I am sure your husband must have a common ancestor with my Hubby.LOL

I won’t tell her you said that. I have to put a barrier there and don’t know what that could be as it is a long space. I need a fence inside the house.
Lol. That fish emulsion stinks to high heaven, but it’s good for the plants.

I think our husbands were twins, separated at birth . . . Smile!
A good solution it seems.
Here are the simple ways I have tried for my raised beds:
Use a sledge hammer to drive rebar into the ground at all 4 corners. Take two equal lengths of PVC pipe length depending on how tall you want the structure.
Put the pipe over the rebar and push it into the ground(the wooden frame around the garden helps to stabilize it) at diaganol corners. Tie the intersections together with strong rope. Cover with plastic attached to poles and anchored by heavy firewood for green house effect.
For shade use a fence or rebar and pvc or leftover metal pipes on one side of the bed. You will have two vertical pipes over the rebar. Attach the pipes with a horizontal pipe and elbows attached to the vertical.
From these you can hang cattle panel or netting for vines to climb. You can also use a shade cloth attached at the top and brought forward lean-to style and anchored by tent stakes for shade from the sun during the hottest part of the day.
Well, I won’t get to research it for a while. Meantime, I’ll be pulling them out and taking them to the burn pile.
Thats amazing. When I was a kid we went to yellowstone on summer vacation. I can’t reacall whether June or July.
I was astounded that snow was banked tall along each side of the mountain roads we were on. Right outside of Cody Wyoming we had to pull into a park due to large hail bigger than golf balls.
We had to sweep the hail off the picnic table to put some of our stuff on. Spent most of the time huddled in the camper with the oven on for heat.

I don’t remember either. It wasn’t me, but I am so glad that someone was able to help.
I bought a pink thermos. It has remained safe. I almost bought a set of pink tools, but lost the catalog and never got around to it.
I figure I’d still have to hide them to keep them. He won’t take the thermos on the job where other men might see it. But tools he uses around the house-he could care less about the color.LOL
