This is the ultra-short stalk (not the only one) of Painted Hill corn, with full sized ear.

Rest of photos HERE. Click on the thumbnails to view them and the captions.

What’s the difference between Painted Hill and Painted Mountain(s)?

I’m thinking of growing the latter next year.

What type of sunflowers are the HUGE ones (in your picture) to the right in the first row? And how tall are those? I'm using that photo for my desktop background. I hope that is okay.

What part of the country do you live in? It has always been my dream to live on farmland, have as many children as possible, and marry a trustworthy man. I got two out of three, which ain't bad (and no complaints!), but still, what a wonderful way to live; thanks again for your photos. They are like heaven to me.

Looking at your photo of Egyptian Walking Onions (beautiful), and wondering where do I purchase these (organic)? Reading on them now, and it's recommended to plant them in the fall, but in microclimates in the spring. We live in Illinois (zone 5). What is your recommendation on that? And can these onions (as they say) truly be used in place of other onions? How do you use them? Do you pickle, etc.? What do you think of their taste?

I don't know how you find the time to post on Free Republic, but if possible, please fill me in.

P.S. Have you, perchance, written a book on gardening? I'd order it today!
