In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".

apheresis (for 1: uh-FER-i-sis, for 2: af-uh-REE-sis) noun
1. The loss of one or more sounds or letters from the beginning of a word. For example, the change in pronunciation of knife from (k-nyf) to (nyf) or the omission of letters as in squire for esquire, or count for account.
2. A method in which blood is drawn from a donor, one or more blood components (such as plasma, platelets, or white blood cells) are removed, and the rest is returned to the donor by transfusion.

Example sentences:
"Williams gives the Narragansett word in full [poquauhock], though common usage reduced it and Anglicized it through apheresis [to quahog]."
--Ray Huling; Harvesting the Bay; Lyons Press; 2012.

"He had quartered in Memphis with Cynthia for weeks, giving over his stem cells through apheresis."
--Jan Karon; In the Company of Others; Viking; 2010.

Etymology:
From Latin aphaeresis, from Greek aphairesis (taking away), from aphairein (to take away), from apo- (away) + hairein (to take). Earliest documented use: 1550.

The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

I’m engaged in apheresis in my mom’s house in order to ready it for listing it with the realtors. 64 years of accumulation of papers, research, etc. I’ve shipped 7 huge boxes at the UPS and have until 2 pm (Pacific time) to finish the job.

Yesterday I found my uncle’s WWII US Navy uniform — at least half of it (somebody stole the “middy” 30 years ago when mom borrowed it to use in a play at school). I think she held on to the rest of it hoping all these years that the top would be returned. My cousin is driving down from San Francisco to collect the pants and the hat. He’s thrilled to get it back.

My job is to remove all personal papers and things I’d like to keep. The rest will be sold. My problem is that she has little bundles of papers stuffed into the oddest places. I think I’ve finished a room, and there (between books in the book shelf) will be an old envelope stuffed with pictures, notes for a project, or receipts that are important. Keep,or discard. Decisions all day long. My husband finished repairing the fence that the tenants next door tore down. Today he can help me in the house. Then it gets turned over to the estate sale manager.

Obama’s Administration wants to perform an apheresis on your email accounts: they want your login and password so they can download all your letters, then return control to you. Oh, it also allows them to assess your political positions, and if need be, send threatening letters to politicians as a frame up.

Not to mention "Cholmondeley." And how about that Obama - reverse apheresis with "Corpse-man."

Genuflectimus non ad principem sed ad Principem Pacis!

Listen, O isles, unto me; and hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; from the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. (Isaiah 49:1 KJV)

Obama is the nominal President
But birthers just call him the Resident
Their shrewd apheresis
Cuts Barry to pieces
But his documentation is hesitant

Like they also want to perform an apheresis on your bank account and eventually all your finances and assets.

it gets worse and worse doesn’t it? the kitchen construction proceeds apace. Have to meet the contractor at the tile place this afternoon to pick out the backsplash tiles. i pretty much figured it out yesterday, i went on my own and looked with the help of the woman there. Small world, she is from Italy and when i asked if she was familiar with our church, Holy Rosary, she said she used to teach there at the Casa Italiana, prior to getting the job at the Tile place. SO that was pretty cool, we discussed the various priests and the changes that had taken place lately etc.

In this area where there are Arabs selling pizza and Pakistanis running the Villa Italiana, yes, it is surprising.

Jagoffs at Burger King discover adding french fries to a sandwich. Then think 4 is a good number to add.
