A THIRD of food produced worldwide goes to waste, UN report reveals

The food the world wastes produces more greenhouse gas emissions than any country except for China and the United States, the United Nations said in a report.

Every year, about a third of all food for human consumption—around 1.3 billion tonnes (1.4 tons)—is wasted, along with all the energy, water and chemicals needed to produce it and dispose of it. Almost 30 percent of the world’s farmland, and a volume of water equivalent to the annual discharge of the River Volga, are in effect being used in vain. …

In the industrialized world, much of the waste comes from consumers buying too much and throwing away what they do not eat. In developing countries, it is mainly the result of inefficient farming and a lack of proper storage facilities. …

Thanks, I’ll remember that at Thanksgiving. I cook for some cruciform vegetable haters. But I keep trying.

Very little goes to waste in this household. Planning menus helps.
All the parents and grandparents lived through the depression and World War II. ‘Nuff said.
But you know what broke me of being picky? Going to live on my own at 17. If you cook a failure and aren’t in a position to order a pizza or go buy something different, you eat it.

You forgot the bacon group aka the “pig” group. It’s also been known that tomatoes when combined with bacon, cheese and white bread become benign.

I guess that all the elites should make us cue up in cafeteria lines in order to eat.

Heck, you just know where this is going . . . we've got femi-nazis and global-warming nazis and now we're gonna get told how much rations we should eat by food-nazis

I can tell 'em, like everyone one a budget, nothing gets wasted in this house!
This fat Socialist politician (John Prescott) from my part of the world wants to ban supermarket "Buy one, get one free" deals cos he reckons it promotes waste. In this house, we rely on those supermarket deals!
And this from a pig whose snout is deep in the Westminster trough!

Truth is he can't bear the thought of ordinary working-class English families with a bounty of food on their table!

Gulfport MS has billboards - one says 1/3 of MS kids are hungry; the other says 3/5 of MS kids are obese. Obviously a problem with equitable distribution...
