The biggest rotation of a passenger ship ever attempted is set to begin shortly after 6:00 am (0400 GMT) on Monday and could last up to 12 hours.
"Parbuckling operations of the Costa Concordia will begin tomorrow," the agency said, using the technical term for rolling a ship upright.
Once the Costa Concordia is upright, the plan is to stabilise it, refloat it and then tow it away for scrapping in a shipyard early next year.
The head of the operation, Nick Sloane, has warned it is now or never for the Costa Concordia because the hull is gradually weakening and might not survive another winter.

It’s amazing how just one person can screw up so many lives. Seeing a lot of that in these days.
CBS' 60 Minutes did a thorough report on the billion
dollar salvage operation-----to upright the vessel on
an underwater platform three football fields long. Then
refloating it and towing it away. Once moored. it will
take two years to cut it up for salvage.
Best of my knowledge, the remaining bodies have not been recovered.
They have a general idea as to where they are, they just could not get to them until they pump out the water.
They’re going to SCRAP it???? I would have thought they could repair the gash in the hull, refurbish the water-damaged interiors, and recover the vessel as a luxury cruiser. Are they seriously saying that would be more costly than writing it off as scrap??
On another note, would you book a cruise on a patched up Concordia?
Depending on what maritime salvage law is in play, the ship may not even “belong” to Carnival anymore . . . it may belong to the salvage company.
>My thoughts as well.
Maybe it has something to do with how the insurance company handled the claim.
With a billion dollar salvage operation underway, in an environmentally sensitive area, there is no way that any salvage company would recoup their investment by claiming ownership of the ship for scrap.
No, this is being paid for by the ship line and/or their insurer.
What’s that cowardly Captain been up to?
I considered that—I wondered if the Italian government is picking up some of the tab. But I don’t know either way.
I believe he’s going to trial.
Is he still breathing air? Is he still eating food and fortifying himself with strong wine and beer? Is he sunning on a beach as I type this? What kind of shows does he watch on Netflix streaming?
I turned on the noon news wanting to see the salvage operation and... well Navy shipyard shooting drove that story completely off the radar.
They keep repeating the same , Don’t know this, that, etc.
At least now they’ve identified one shooter.
I want to see the salvage.
