Pvt. Jessica Lynch, 10 Years After Iraq Rescue: Pain But Much Gain
ABC News via Yahoo ^ | 9-19-13 | ANGEL CANALES

Posted on 09/19/2013 4:07:18 PM PDT by Houmatt

It was back in March 23, 2003, just three days after the start of the Iraq War, when Private First Class Jessica Lynch's unit was ambushed in Nasiriyah, Iraq. Lynch was only 19 when she was captured, badly injured and raped by Iraqi forces and held hostage for nine days before her dramatic rescue by US Rangers on April 1, 2003.

Controversy surrounds the "mythic" rescue story line. Lynch has blamed the Bush administration for exaggerating the bravery and success of the war with her story. "I knew that, even ten years later, I would not have been able to live with myself knowing that I let those stories escalate and I went along with what those other people were saying, because I knew in my heart that that's not really what happened," Lynch told ABC News' Bob Woodruff.

Am I the only one who just doesn't care about this ingrate?

Look: She was rescued because an Iraqi discovered her and traveled miles on foot to get word to our soldiers. And he got absolutely nothing from her in return. Not a thank you, not anything. In fact, when he got here to the States and went to visit her to see how she was doing, she refused to see him.

That woman is best left forgotten to the annals of history, as she is a pathetic footnote in the United States Armed Forces.

Women don’t belong in the military and Jessica Lynch and what happened to her are perfect examples of why.

Kids do stupid things that they regret later.

I am willing to let it go. 21 surgeries is a lot to go through. I am sure there was a fair share of crap that she had to eat after not living up to the hype.

It’s awful to put any 19 year old through.

I say, give her a pass and get on with her life.

If she’d only been well-trained enough to charge her M-16, she probably would’ve never been captured and assaulted. What kind of namby-pamby basic training do they have since I left the service? I’m betting a female Marine wouldn’t have forgotten basic weaponry less than a year after going through it. And I say that as a soldier.

Ingrate? How so? From the very beginning she admitted that the stories about her had been exaggerated.............Why do you have a problem with that?

She wasn’t in the infantry, she was in a truck convoy, so she’s probably in transportation or supply. Although I did know one each female artillery and air defense lieutenants, which always puzzled me since combat arms weren’t open to women back in my day.

She seems to understand the meaning of honor. What is your problem?

Are you suggesting this Iraqi doesn’t exist?

She was knocked unconscious and had several bones broken when her truck crashed. She wasn’t firing any weapon no matter how well she was trained.

Lynch has blamed the Bush administration for exaggerating the bravery and success of the war with her story.

I suspect she has no idea of the planning and the risks involved in getting her to safety in the middle of an all-out invasion. If her unit couldn't drive a truck down the street without getting attacked and nearly wiped out, what makes her think the rescue was a walk in the park?

And the doctor who saved her put himself and his whole family at particular risk of being slaughtered as traitors for helping her.

As others have said, I'm sure she doesn't want to dwell on any of this for reasons known only to her. And she doesn't want to be a symbol for a war she may well not believe in. But a little respect for the people who saved her is still in order.

Are you sure? Then the report I read back then was bogus, because it said she forgot how to load her M-16 to fire it.

Yes, the doctor who saved her. It seems there are people here who seem to think he is imaginary. I’d like them to prove it.

Sorry but screw your opinion. I was in the unit next to hers at Bliss. My convoy was the next in line in Iraq on a paralell highway. She went through crap that most people in America never will and she has a right she earned to be however she wants in regard to that war. She was used as a prop by the Army and politics and she knows it and voices her opinion over it.

I'm not suggesting anything other than why you have such a bean up your ass against this woman who did nothing to deserve your wrath...........

She's been straight forward from the very beginning and yet you're trashing her.........It's you that has a problem dude, not her.

Screw you. If it wasn't for that doctor, she probably wouldn't have been found and she would have been an MIA.

I think a little gratitude would have been nice.

The first story from her in interviews was that she had received little training with her weapon and she couldn’t fire it. Then as the interviews progressed she said her weapon jammed, now her story seems to be that she was knocked unconscious from the blast when her convoy was ambushed and had no idea what happened. She claims the story the Army/President Bush- whoever told was bogus; but she has told several versions herself.

No, doofus.

If something happens to you that places your life in danger, and someone else is willing to sacrifice not only himself but the lives of his family to help get you out of that situation, the absolute leastyou can do is say thank you.

But everything I have seen tells me Jessica Lynch did no such thing.

And here you are telling me it is perfectly okay to be an ungrateful ass? And I have a problem?
