Twenty-five percent of uninsured Americans say they will pay a fine rather than purchase health insurance in 2014, according to a newly released Gallup Poll.
Another 65 percent said they are more likely to purchase health insurance than pay a fine. Under Obamacare, people may sign up for insurance on one of the new exchanges; or they may get coverage through their employer, from Medicaid or Medicare, or by purchasing a plan outside the exchanges.

I wonder how many of those 65% planning to buy insurance actually know what it will cost?
“I will not comply”
I bet there will be more than 25%. The same irresponsible crowd will still show up at the ER and get their free healthcare. Obamacare was designed to help just a few, the politicians extorting votes.
The ones that sign up won’t pay and soon no one is filing taxes.
Obamacare will be like education - a big sham.
RE: At Least 25% of Uninsured Americans Say They Will Stay That Way (under Obamacare)
What if most of them don’t pay the Roberts Tax ( or as it was once called, a fine )?
Does the IRS have the resources to go after millions of them?
That is why it is connected to the IRS. You end up with an IRS bill for not getting it and they will go to bank accounts and property to seize fines.
Time to convert to Islam to become exempt... Crazy evil world IMO.
if I didn't have assets, and I was pretty healthy, I 'd take a shot at foregoing it....afterall, what'll they gonna do?...take blood from a turnup....
you can bet the inner city and illegals won't pay a cent more and they'll get the best my tax dollars can pay for...
All the IRS can do if you don’t pay the fine is withhold it from your income tax return if you are getting a refund
how about those peeps whose annual salary is less than 24K?? How are they able to afford an average of $320 per month?
That’s the question. They say they’ll “probably” buy insurance. Most of these people probably think it’s going to be free or cost very little. When they find out the truth everyone of them will change their minds.
Leading a horse to water does not assure it will drink.
The horse has to have come compelling reason to drink, say, like it’s thirsty?
Grabbing a hose, jamming it down the horse’s throat, and turning on the water full force may get water into the horse, but the collateral damage may not be rationalized.
The horse may very well resist. Even if the “delivery system”, i.e., the hose down the throat, is successfully put in place, the potential for great mischief remains. No way of telling how much water is actually delivered, or if it meets any real need on the part of the horse. The horse may regurgitate the water, draining into its lungs, drowning it, or its internal organs may burst, causing internal ruptures and death by internal bleeding.
Do not start vast projects with half-vast ideas.
You are correct. Yet many here don’t know that.
Actually I believe that the IRS can withhold the Roberts Tax from you tax refund but that is their only recourse, no liens or the like.
So will the subsidies be designed to only cover the premiums of the cheapest plans ?
That has always been my thought that obamacare has been about keeping the earned income credit money
The IRS is prohibited from their usual Stasi tactics for non-payment of taxes. It's in the law:
What would happen if people just refused to buy health insurance even if a law ordered them to?
In the Slate article, they cite the law:
And further:
I think the only way that people will have to pay the penalty is if they file for a tax refund. The penalty will be deducted from that. But, you can easily adjust your withholding so you never have a refund.
If that is for a family, they likely would be on medicaid
No liens or the like yet.
