Surviving the Big Shutdown Live Thread
October 1, 2013 | Pan_Yan

Posted on 10/01/2013 4:43:00 AM PDT by Pan_Yan

Despite the palpable fear in the air I ventured out this morning and headed towards The City. Everything seemed calm- traffic flowing, street lights on- but I'm taking no chances. Even on Free Republic the normal early morning posts to the prayer threads and Religion Forum seem tense.

I figured the rioting won't start until dawn when the government workers who are oh-so-vital to keeping our society funcitoning on every single level don't show up.

Please post your updates as our society plunges into chaos, spins out of control, or whatever other cliche you'd like to use.

My toilets flushed, too.

I have an old 5-gallon flusher, but due to the shutdown, it only flushes 1.6 gallons at a time.

Miltary Defense. Still the largest budget item.

I am also a contractor, but I am on the job, while the Govies are wandering around in a state of semi-shock.

I also got up this morning, fed the cats and dogs, let the dogs out, brought them in, my shower worked, so did the toilet...still looking for the oncoming armageddon...

Oh, yeah...and Dingy Harry is still blaming the TEA Party.

One of my husband’s doctors just called to remind us about today’s appointment. This is his first appointment with this doctor. Maybe they don’t know he has Medicare and TriCare. I guess the chaos won’t ensue until we present the Medicare card and military ID. But so far, so good.

The Washington Post reports we can’t watch LiveCams of the baby Panda Bears nursing.

If only we knew...this could have been averted with an abortion.

You guys are poking fun at a serious situation and I for one don't like it.

This shutdown is going to affect me and mine at least ten times more than the sequester did. TEN TIMES.

And that's not funny.

Yesterday the govies in my office were yukking it up, not getting much work done - oh, NM, that’s pretty much like any day. We contractors do most of the work.

When I think of the bureaucracy in Washington D.C. I can’t help but think of the Capitol in ‘The Hunger Games.’ The special people. The chosen ones. While the rest of the country has been struggling and wondering how they will make it without a job this town has been booming like the California gold rush. Partying and dancing and dining while the rest of the country begins to burn.
But this morning things look a little different. There is a sense of unease rippling through the machine.
It makes me smile quietly.

Shockingly, I feel no different. Shutdowns must be like radiation or carbon monoxide - you can’t see it, smell it, or feel it.

The dog threw up. Perhaps it is the shutdown that has upset his stomach. In many ways, he is far more aware of impending danger than I am. I intend to shelter in place when necessary.

When is the MSM predicting the power goes off & the riots start in WDC, NYC, & LA? I want to have fresh popcorn ready.

As for your location: Gather what belongings you can & FLEE for you life.

The gov workers aren’t getting paid (the ones I know, anyway). They are supposed to go in to lock offices, turn in cellphones etc, for 4 hours then leave.

Which redundant government program are you dependent upon?

Do you work as a contractor or are you a non essential gov employee, or buying a home, working for a non essential unnecessary branch of gov?
