Worst Drug in Arizona: Meth, Bath Salts, or Krokodil?
Phoenix Times ^ | Tue., Oct. 1 2013 | Tue., Oct. 1 2013

A local poison-control center reported what appears to be the first reported cases of people using the drug "Krokodil" in the country.

The drug, which apparently gets its name from the appearance many of its users get, due to sores, is described as a "moonshine" version of heroin.

VICE did a video report on the drug, including two Russian brothers who are absolutely, positively fried from using the stuff for a year.

I’ve never heard of Krokodil.

It was an old Soviet humor magazine: Крокодил

"After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the magazine was discontinued. It was reinstated in 2005 in Russia, issued monthly, headquartered in Moscow, and with editor-in-chief Sergei Mostovshchikov. The reinstated version is deliberately printed on old Soviet-style paper."

More recently, it has become the street moniker of Desomorphine, a nasty derivative of morphine, which is working to prove out Darwin's theory of natural selection among the two-legged critters.

There sure are a lot of different opioids you rarely hear about.

” It’s named for the crocodile-like look it gives users’ rotting skin.”

Wow. Figures it’s popular in Russia.

Drugs need to kill those that take them... they need to work quickly to save society from the evil and carnage that those that do drugs foment. Is that harsh?

I can understand the sentiment, but it doesn't seem very realistic. How's an oxycodone pill supposed to know if it's the one that just made the pain stop, or the one that got the user high?

Krokodil was also the name of the HUGE circulation humor magazine in the old Soviet Union. Since it was a humor magazine, it was allowed a bit more latitude than other periodicals in presenting subtle jabs at their system. In the final couple of years the subtle humor became more overt as things opened up. It was during that time that they published my humor articles over there. Some of the Krokodil crew visited the USA in 1990 when I met them and the ironic thing is the liberal audience they were addressing became upset that they did NOT like socialism/communism. Anyway, Krokodil ceased publication at about the time the Soviet Union fell the following year.

Glad you posted this info about Krokodil in the Soviet Union. BTW, in addition to the crew from Krokodil I also met the Estonian editor of Pikker which was their own humor magazine. Reason why I remember is I told a funny story about an Estonian friend of mine who had trouble color coordinating his clothes when he came to America from Estonia.

I am happy Rush survived. I just have no patience for those that abuse society because they cannot handle the drugs that they do. Rush never harmed anyone... most of these street thugs would kill you for a casio watch.

I’ve never heard of Krokodil.

About a year ago I saw an article on this stuff, it comes out of Russia I think. They made it sound like the absolute worst. It does more damage to the human body than anything. They showed addicts with their jaws just gone, still using (until they inevitably just die).

Glad you posted this info about Krokodil in the Soviet Union.

Back in the 2000's, I recall, there was another Russian humor magazine, the Exile, published in English by expatriate Americans living in Moscow. I never saw a dead-tree copy, but the website was a hoot, especially War Nerd's columns. In 2008, it appears, they wore out their welcome with the FSB and ceased publication.

It would have to be meth. Not that many actually do bath salts. And krokodile is the latest “oh this horrible thing druggies are doing” new scare that in the end turns out to be a bunch of BS.

Meth 32.33%

Bath salts 8.62%

Krokodil 37.07%

Eh, they’re all pretty good to me 21.98%

It’s a cryin shame that these drugs don’t kill the users after the third useage. I have 0-ZERO-0% pity for drug users who screw up by taking mind benders then expect me to pay for their rehab, penal sentencing and medical treatment for the rest of their life.

I prefer huffing solvents or sniffing cans of Cheese Wiz or Cool Whip, chased with bourbon.

There is so much meth in the midwest, we could use it all open up ski resorts. This is in spite of law enforcement making it a top priority.
