Swarms of deadly hornets have killed more than 40 people and injured more than 1,600 in northern China.
At least 37 patients are in a critical or serious condition in hospitals, according to Shaanxi provincial government. Victims of the attack have been left with deep, dark craters in their skin the size of bullet wounds.
The Chinese term for hornets is hu feng and local experts believe the culprit is the Asian giant hornet or Vespa mandarinia, which grows up to 5 cm (2 in) long with a 6-mm (¼-in) sting. The insects highly toxic stings can lead to anaphylactic shock and renal failure.

Apollyon!
How long before they immigrate to the U.S.?
The wounds look horrific.
I don’t care if they do have small hands over there!!!
I’m getting a flame thrower!
Look on the bright side. These bugs could be the beginning of a new shotgun sport.
Strange, I just killed about 50 or so that we’re clustered in the biggest nest I have ever seen. I live in central Texas.
Exactly what I was thinking.
According to one site they’re already here. One was spotted in Illinois but it’s unconfirmed as far as I can tell.
PESTILENCE
the venom dissolves issue.
1. I am 50 years old. I’ve lived in the DC area my whole life.
2. About 12 years ago, I started seeing gigantic, thumb sized hornet/wasp things all over the place-the largest I have ever seen in my entire life.
3. Either they have been around for 50 years and I never noticed them (impossible, right?) or they are brand new to the region, and I am the only person to take notice of them. (Impossible, right?)
What gives? It is one of the most baffling things I’ve ever encountered.
Yup.
I saw flies swarming the backyard dumpster.
Pestilence.
“Exactly what I was thinking.”
Ugg!
I think to myself, “It’s coming”
How long before they immigrate to the U.S.?
*****************************************************
I suspect it won’t be long before some “well-meaning” Chinese immigrant brings some in and releases them into the American wild. Thank you for the snakehead fish, the stink bugs and the coming killer hornets.
Finally a reason to by a .410.
Don’t forget Asian Beetles.
That’s what I thought!
