Hello. If you all haven't noticed how the obomba led government shutdown is affecting your postal service hopefully I will be able to open your eyes.
On a topic that I have yet to see anything written about my wife and I have noticed that the USPS is now, more than ever, losing mail, taking two to three times as long to deliver the mail and when they do deliver the mail they are tacking on a COD charge to the recipient. My wife and I run a couple of online business where we have to send lots of mail out each day. Letters and parcels that used to, for example, take one stamp are now costing over $2.00 and our customers are getting pissed off about it. When we call our local area post office they say that they don't know anything about it and when we either drop off the mail to the post office or the letter carrier picks up the mail they don't see anything wrong or else they would say something. Yet it's taking forever for our mail to get to where it is going and when it gets there many times the postal services in those areas are charging extra.
This crap has got to stop. I am all for defunding the US Postal Service and either, preferably, returning the money used by the postal service to those of us that pay the taxes to keep that dysfunctional agency afloat or use the money to subsidize private postal carriers like FedEx or UPS. Of course this will never happen as the Department of Homeland Security relies heavily upon the US postal service and it intelligence gathering efforts.
No change here.
Yea, they are a menace. I’ve had two deliveries to the sewer. Shown as delivered but nowhere to be found. First time in decade.
Only change here is that the local mail handling facility was closed and now you have to get outgoing to the PO by 4:00 instead of 5:30.
What's wrong with that, you ask, well I live in a suburb of Kansas City, MO!
I believe their package tracking site has been down for about 3 days.
USPS gets worse and worse but I don’t think they are affected by the shutdown. Maybe they are being slow out of jealousy that they have to “work” while their cohorts get free unearned vacations?
That said I advocate disrupting the USPS by saving junk mail sent to yourself and dropping it in blue bins 10 miles away. It will come back to you again. Repeat. Send things a nickel postage due and make them take time to collect it.
I don’t know what the deal is but at MY facility none of that crap is happening.
My experiences is that when you’re out in the country with a small post office and you know the people personally, then they don’t play these games with you.
Our post office does make mistakes, and deliver letters to the wrong address, but I just put them back in the box and I presume they get re-delivered. It’s not deliberate—they’ve just got clumsy thumbs when they’re sorting the mail.
My mail was only lost before the so-called shutdown, and only California post offices lost it. Since the misnamed shutdown began, the mail has been going perfectly. Everything else is going fine, too. Continue the shutdown!
Just be careful. The last thing we want to do is to get postal workers upset.
COD? I thought the recipient paid COD.
Something is fishy. I’d recommend contacting the USPS. I believe there is a toll free number.
Hmmmmm....
Well, for starters the USPS is self funded. Every time you lick a stamp and affix to that parcel you are sending, the bill gets paid.
COD is paid for by the recipient.
FOB is paid for by the sender.
My local PO used to lose 2 to 3 of my local utility bills each year. Numerous times I had to call the city and ask them to send another copy because I never got the original.
Additionally, many times I would get mail for some resident who lived in a completely different part of town and whose address was not even close to mine. But such mail would end up in my box.
Now, I receive and pay most of my bills online. That way, I don’t have to be concerned with the PO or with kids passing by the box and taking mail out. Most payments get an immediate transaction number and follow-up email confirmation.
I ‘mail’ maybe 1 or 2 items per year.
“I am all for defunding the US Postal Service “
The US Postal Service is not taxpayer-funded, and thus has not been affected by the shutdown.
I agree. Our post office is small--just four carriers---but they are all conservative Republicans. They're hard workers, and they don't have time to lounge around and take breaks.
By stating the truth about postal funding, you’re liable to derail the indignant venting.
Lick a stamp ? Holy cow, haven’t done that, in years ! When self adhesive stamps came out, my son took the book I had just bought, and applied them to his favorite toys. He even invited me into his room to check them out - “Hey Dad, look at these cool stickers I found !”. I didn’t know whether to laugh, or cry :) Thanks.
