A woman from Melbourne, Florida learned that the law can be heartless. Violating a law that prohibits pets from wandering leashless, she received a ticket in excess of $200.

One of her pets was a kitty cat in a specially designed wheelchair; Pooh Bear’s front legs are fine but his back legs are paralyzed.

That’s NOT a wheelchair! The cat is not sitting down. It looks more like training wheels.

Many are just directed to fine/tax anywhere they can.

Another great reason to fire 90% of government employees and to shrink the government and it’s costs.

Cat was unavailable for an interview. Did not respond to repeated calls. ;)

I’m on Ms. Steele’s side, but she really should have shots for her critters updated. Really.

The idiots thought the wheels made the cat go faster...

The ticketing officer said...

‘I was standing there and this cat just went purring by without a leash and not under control’.

they make these for dogs and rabbits whose hind legs have been injured, or in certain cases where a neurolgical parasite has done some damage before being treated by the vet.

often you don’t know there’s a serious problem until one day you find they can’t stand/walk or are wobbly, then you take them in, but the damage may or may not be permanent.

Only rare cats will submit to a leash.

I lived in Melbourne for a winter.....Man was that place boring even the fishing sucked. Then I read for a reason I don’t know it has the one of the highest male to female ratios in the lower 48. That would explain cops with absolutely nothing better to do then ticket cats in wheelchairs.

It’s easier to habitualize cats, if you leash them before they are 8 weeks. Almost all cats can get used to leashing, but the older they are the longer and more difficult the process is.

“Many are just directed to fine/tax anywhere they can.”

The code enforcement office in my county was staffed to meet the building bubble. Not a single enforcement goon has been laid off. According to a contractor I spoke with the code people were told, “if you want to keep your job get out there and write code violations!” He said that previously they’d find something on the job and you’d get to correct it. But now they find a minimum of three things totaling about $3,000 per job. He has simply priced that into the cost.
