Dan Price was once a successful but stressed out family man in Kentucky but left it all behind twenty years ago to live underground in the Oregon woods. He's the Hobbit hole man who walked away from the 9-to-5 life, dug himself a house under a horse pasture and he has never looked back. When you get rid of things and youre willing to have less, youre given a gift of more, said Price as he sat in his 8-foot abode.
Price once worked as a photojournalist to help support his wife and two young kids and to pay the family mortgage. I told myself, buck up and pay the bills, Price recalled to NBC News. This is just the way normal life is.
He lived in a string of rustic dwellingsa cabin, an old flophouse, even a tepeebefore building the tree-covered Hobbit hole out of mostly found materials in Joseph, Oregon. Now, twenty years after seeing the light in simple living, Price is still in his 8-foot dwelling in the ground. In the carpeted, wood-lined circular room, Price has everything he needs. There appears to be electricity in his hobbit hole and a hot plate for cooking. Though it barely seems to fit, a cushion rolls out for sleeping.

He’s selling a book on Amazon called Radically Simple. In the comments he is bashed for abandoning his wife and two children. I wonder that he mentions them at all. If he believes that this is a good life, did he try to bring his children to it? When a place gets too dirty, he burns it down.
Odd. I’m wondering the same thing others are, about his family left behind.
Does he have the Internet? And Ponis???
He sounds like your typical Obama voter to me. But I repeat myself.
WTFIIWNM?
LOL! I knew what was coming before clicking...
I’m hoping to be living a similar lifestyle in a year or two.

"Price's relationship with his wife and children also raises questions. He clearly loves them, but his separation from them leaves "the endless tasks and financial black holes of keeping a full-blown household up and running" to his wife (p. 9)."
I don’t think he should NOT do this but he should have thought about it before getting married and having kids. Selfish a..hole!
I hope when he gets old and sick he doesn’t crawl out of his hole and expect his kids to care.
How does one spend from November to April in Hawaii and spend less than $5,000 per year?

Sure, we're a little bit freaky, but that is not necessarily a bad thing.

Yep. I went from Seattle to KY. And I don’t live underground. ;-)
Why leave Kentucky to go to Oregon?
Why leave a pony country for a non-pony country?
To do what? Live like a gopher?
