Skip to comments.Stand Down Marines & Supporters-No Change to Male Cover-Vanity
Posted on 10/25/2013 7:03:41 AM PDT by huldah1776
Despite what you may have seen in other headlines, there will be no change to the male uniform cover. Straight from the Commandant of the Marine Corps Gen. James F. Amos:
1. The President in no way, shape or form directed the Marine Corps to change our uniform cover.
2. We are looking for a new cover for our female Marines for one overriding reason: the former manufacturer went out of business.
3. The Marine Corps has zero intention of changing the male cover.
It sounds to me as though a “trial balloon” might have been shot down.
Respectfully, if this is so then why did the USMC create a variant of the cover for men and publish photos of a male marine wearing it? I suppose I should interpret "had zero intention..." as "now has zero intention...".
All this denial almost make the change a certainty. :)
A post with the same question was on the FB page. Reply:
Marines: The original survey pushed out with the Dan Daly cover was incorrect and pulled, but not before media ran a story about it. There will be no change to the male cover.
Then please explain the picture of the man wearing one too!
Zero intention of changing the male cover, except, well, maybe having everyone wear the Dan Daley cover. But that’s up to the board to give a recommendation and will be reviewed. We repeat, we have no intention of changing the male cover, yet.
Gosh, it is like they are a government agency.
There was a survey in regards to changing the female cover.
LOL I was looking at their facebook page and they were born in 1775. Long time line for that page! It would be a good history lesson if they could allow posts to previous years.
What - with all the new business?
Time to find a Chinese one.
Boy, I don’t get out much. They do have information on each year. Cool!
We could open a part-time only business. I wonder why the company that makes the male covers doesn’t make the female covers.
By the way, I do not like the Army berets. I like my brothers uniform from Nam era.
This “reassurance” comes from Obama’s lackeys. Please tell me you are not going to believe it.
IMO, the old 1920s version of the cap is far superior to more recent versions, and the new proposed (so-called) Dan Daly is now less “Dan Daly,” and indeed, more “girly” since it more resembles the one worn by WRs these last many years!
See Gunnery Sergeant Dan Daly Pic, below, shown w/the 1920s headgear, and w/his two medals of honor worn around his neck.
He must have wanted to copy the cover of Sgt Major Dan Daly.

*****(i don’t know how to do images)
Sergeant Major Daniel Joseph “Dan” Daly (November 11, 1873 April 27, 1937) was a United States Marine and one of only nineteen men (including seven marines) to have received the Medal of Honor twice [Plus an Army Distinguished Service Cross]. Of the Marines who are double recipients, only Daly and Major General Smedley Butler received their Medals of Honor for two, separate actions.
Daly is said to have yelled, “Come on, you sons of bitches, do you want to live forever?” to the men in his company prior to charging the Germans during the Battle of Belleau Wood in World War I, imitating the words of the Prussian King Frederick the Great at the Battle of Kolin.
Major General Butler described Daly as, “The fightin’est Marine I ever knew!” Daly reportedly was offered an officer’s commission twice to which he responded that he would rather be, “...an outstanding sergeant than just another officer.”
It will be delayed at least, like obamacare.
Re my old 2001 FR post on Gunny Daly.....
“It sounds to me as though a trial balloon might have been shot down.”
After the outrage, there is no change NOW.
Girls in combat, gays in the Marine Corps, now Girlie Hats for the jarheads. Obama has done more to humiliate our armed forces than John Kerry and Jane Fonda combined.
You just gave me a headache. Out for a cigarette.
Dan Daley was certainly a man’s man. He uttered one of my favorite quotes of all time. Pinned down at Bellau Woods he is reported to have said “Come on you sons of bitches. Did you think you would live forever”.
Now that takes a set of gonads to say that in the situation they were in.
Semper Fi Gunny...
And what the FB post implies is that the Marines will put WMs in the male cover, which is what the Navy is in the process of doing. Equally unacceptable.
WHEN will they storm the White hut ?
Whew. I’ve lost faith in the leadership of the Army, Navy, and Air Force to retain any semblance of spine...and would give up completely if the Obamaloons managed to infect even the Marines.
Help us Obi Marines, you are our only hope.
“WHEN will they storm the White hut ?”
I keep thinking that and was afraid to post...but there, you said it.
And I fully, completely, utterly agree.
The lowest ranking Marine possesses infinitely more courage, morals, strength, training, education and trustworthiness than does the Obamadork/felon/cretin, and general piece of sewage.
The wife and I are also former Marines and the new cover isn’t that much different than the WM cover from the early 70s and before. If there was an attemmpt to make it more like the Dan Daly style cover of the early 1900s then they’ve failed. I don’t see anything particulary bad about the true Dan Daly style I don’t think there is any reason to change from the wheel cover.
I swear the libs leak stuff like this to press to get everyone worked up and distracted from paying attention to important stuff.
It sounds to me as though a trial balloon might have been shot down.
Makes two of us in agreement with that comment.
Look for some weaseling, as always. Something like, “We changed the headgear for the women, but then we realized that that was a sexist thing to do, so everyone now must wear the girly hat.”
Being promoted is the means to introduce politically correct ideology into the ranks. I hope the retired veterans who are like Gen Gray who spoke at the Beirut memorial will become vocal, unite, and form a counter offensive to the post-modern agenda.
Thanks for this -- I think it was paraphrased in Clint Eastwood's "Heartbreak Ridge" in the conversation between Chouzou (sp?) and Gunny Highway where he says "You're too ugly to live forever."
I wonder if Dan Daley was the inspiration for the Highway character.
