Banksy has used his latest piece of artwork in New York to criticize the ‘mediocre’ design of the new World Trade Center – and claim its construction is symbolic of the city losing its nerve.

On Sunday, the artist posted an opinion piece on his website, 'Better Out Than In,' and said that his essay had been rejected by the New York Times.

'It would be easy to view One World Trade Center as a betrayal of everyone who lost their lives on September 11th, because it so clearly proclaims the terrorists won,' Banks writes in his rejected op-ed. 'Those 10 men have condemned us to live in a world more mediocre than the one they attacked, rather than be the catalyst for a dazzling new one.'

I've only recently heard about this graffiti artist, but apparently he's pretty famous in pop culture. Interesting that he's willing to express this viewpoint, considering that his audience is decidedly liberal.

My ex-mo-in-law had a great idea about rebuilding the WTC — and one with which I agreed 100%.

She said, “Rebuild it exactly the same, but make it one story taller.”

They should have replaced the towers with the same exact tower design for two reasons: (1) A big f-you to the towel heads; (2) so that films like Superman and Trading Places don’t look so silly with the towers in them.

There’s one tower where there where two. It’s smaller. It has beveled sides and looks broken.

“Rebuild it exactly the same, but make it one story taller.”

That's exactly what I would have done, if I'd had my druthers. The new WTC building says nothing to me. Like Banksy said, New York lost its nerve.

The ultimate insult, "One World Trade Center is a non-event. It's vanilla. It looks like something they would build in Canada."

But it's true, and even worse it has been 12 years and still not done.

You can’t really nail down Banksy as being right or left. He’s a really talented guy though . If you get some of his graffiti on your building...conceder you’re self lucky . You can carve out that wall and sell it for a ton.

‘It would be easy to view One World Trade Center as a betrayal of everyone who lost their lives on September 11th, because it so clearly proclaims the terrorists won,’

And then America elected a Moslem president.

Massive case of Stockholm Syndrome.

Go figure.

I always thought that they should use the opportunity to rebuild BOTH towers EXACTLY as they were, but strengthened.

Atop one of them would then be Osama Bin Laden’s Bronzed Head affixed permanently on a long pike.

As it is, it became a mish-mash of special victim interests and bureaucratic bickering, resulting in a monument to ‘inclusion and appeasement.’
