The government-funded Backyard Brains based in Michigan is selling a $99 DIY RoboRoach kit which allows people to use a living cockroach and treat it like a robot by remotely controlling it.
...
The kit uses the same concept found in deep brain stimulation. Peoples brains are stimulated by implanted electrodes which can help them control symptoms of neurological-based disorders such as Parkinsons disease. Instead of people, the kit uses a live cockroach and instead of implanted electrodes, the latter is attached to the bugs antennas. These electrodes would then send three-volt electricity bringing electrical shocks to the bug, making it move however the user wanted it to. This is made possible by a toy remote control that comes with the kit although future models are said to be smartphone compatible.

Reminds me of this old movie I saw years ago.
BUG.

Spokesman: Roaches. Eliminating them from your home should be safe, as well as effective. Most products on the market today use strong poisons to seize a roach's central nervous system, paralyze him, and eventually kill them. Can't we do better than that? Now you can, with new Bug-Off.
Roaches are attracted to Bug-Off by a chemical message that says, "Come on in, it's warm and safe in here." Once inside, the roach is held fast by a powerful adhesive, while three pairs of tiny tweezers grab the roach's legs and strech them in opposite directions until, eventually, they snap off. Meanwhile, a red-hot metal coil burns off the roach's reproductive organs, as the roach's own legs are used to beat him senseless. And, with the patented clear-view window, you can be sure it's working. Finally, wads of turpentine silk cotton are stuffed into the roach's orifices, while a tasty piece of food dangles just out of his reach.
True, none of this will actually kill the roach.. but it will give him plenty to think about. So stop coddling your roaches. They've had it too good for too long. Give them what they deserve, with Bug-Off.
Announcer: Bug-Off. Go Medieval!
Gentlemen, we can rebuild him.
We have the technology.
We have the capability to make the world's first bionic bug.
Better than he was before.
Better... stronger... faster.
Info; This was the last film by director William Castle. Castle wanted to install little sweeping brushes in the theatre rows, to brush the legs of the movie watchers, and simulate the crawling advance of the mutant roaches, but it surprisingly, it was turned down.
Its not okay to torture and mutilate cockroaches,
People though, that is another story to PETA.
No more
cockroach cannon?
Probably some relatives of PETA members.
Although I don’t give a damn about the cockroaches, actually, I do have a problem with this too. Treating a living thing like a remote control toy lowers the moral barriers to doing the same to other people. I sure wouldn’t give one to my kid.
What if PETA’s HQ were infested with cockroaches? What do you suppose they’d do?
