Five teens kidnapped Serge, an 8-year-old llama, from a Franco-Italian circus in Bordeaux on Thursday morning. After taking the animal on a tram, passengers took out their cellphones to take pictures - and call the police about their unusual fellow rider.
Drunken teens in France stole a llama before taking it on a tram ride, police said. The five boys allegedly kidnapped 8-year-old Serge from a Franco-Italian circus in Bordeaux early Thursday morning minutes after they'd stumbled out of a nightclub.
The teens took the llama around with them for a short period of time.
Leading their "pet" to the Bassins à Flot tram stop, they boarded the train. Shocked fellow passengers reached for their cellphones to take footage as the animal calmly followed his new friends.
The exploits have been celebrated on social media, with a Facebook and Tumblr account created to catalog pictures and memes.
The quintet then disembarked and got onto another tram, before being stopped by cops and arrested at the Place de la Comedie.
Video clips and images of the escapade have since turned the five and Serge into online sensations, reports Sudouest.fr.
A Facebook fan page has more than 700,000 likes and the llama, who has since been reunited with his circus owners, has had the meme-treatment in a Tumblr blog.
