The raptor trap will be used at the San Jose airport to relocate red-tail hawks
A Bay Area high school student's project is getting a lot of attention from the U.S. government.
Caleb Levine is a junior at Branham High School in San Jose. He created something called Raptor Traps.
On Thursday he demonstrated how they work at Mineta San Jose International Airport. He initially built two of them.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture will use his invention to catch and relocate red-tail hawks who are attracted to the airport.
The Eagle Scout says he's interested in environmental science, and this project was perfect for him.
“This is something that was very interesting and not the ordinary, most boy scout, eagle candidates don't build something like this, so this was very unique, nobody has ever done before,” Levine said.
The USDA says the teen's invention will improve safety for aircraft and passengers.

The kid should patent it, mass produce it and sell it to the feds for $1,000s of dollars each unit.

I read the comments at the article site and it seems the boy hasn’t invented anything. What he did is build a Swedish Goshawk trap. A device that has been around for decades.
I doubt they go for pigeons much, because there are easier targets. Pigeons are fairly big and flock together for safety. The raptors around my city tend to stick to rats as prime targets.

They tried that with perigren falcons in Memphis back in the early 90’s. Set them up with penthouse bird mansions to prey on pigeons. They flew the coop within days, never to be seen again lol
