I used to have an olive-salad I’d make.
A bunch of different olives (klamata, green, black, red, etc), with cubes of cheese, [toasted] bread, and tomatoes with an olive-oil/balsamic-vinegar dressing; usually served in a bowl made from the hollowed out bread.

OK..I’ll bite....how many jiggers are in a “zigger?” Never heard the word before.. ( is it racist? I sure hope not!) so I though it might be a typo..but on the QWERTY..the “z” is nowhere near the “j”

My most memorable Thanksgiving was spent on an Artillery OP in Korea. Apparently the BN CO took pity on us and sent a crew with full mermite containers, a complete Thanksgiving meal for the FO team.

Listening to my grandchildren’s gratitude lists around the table.
Preteen boys can’t seem to come up with a reason that doesn’t relate to sports.
11 year old granddaughter decided to play a “joke” on Nonny(me) by saying that she is grateful that Barack Obama is our POTUS. haha
No seconds on pie for you, Adelaide.

Tradition - I sit in the recliner, drinking Scotch and listening to Steely Dan on mp3 player, while my extended family trashes my house and screeches like banshees on the moors.

It’s not my favorite holiday.

It’s all pretty much the same every year for me. I guess my most memorable is the next.

Turkey
Dressing with gravy
cranberry sauce
candied sweet potatoes
sweet breads
pumpkin pie
pecan pie
Giving thanks to God for blessings
Being with family.

Oh - it’s just too too difficult to choose. I love Thanksgiving and the next best thing is getting to light the outdoor Christmas lights on TG evening!

Every Thanksgiving I experienced in the field or Mess Hall as a career military guy was the most enjoyable. Believe me there were many.

  1. Put turkey in bag.
  2. Put bagged turkey in oven preheated to bag instructions.
  3. When red plastic rod pops up, remove turkey from oven.

Several years ago, a FReeper was stationed in Iraq and popped up a thread about a "surprise" visitor who'd just arrived -- but security wouldn't allow him to disclose who it was.

Soon enough, after back in the air, FOX's Jim Angle broke the news that GW had secretly flown in to share Thanksgiving with the troops.

When our dog Clem brought home the neighbor’s turkey. Why, yes, we were the models for the Bupkis family on that movie.
