THE JFK ASSASSINATION: LEFT WING KOOK LEE HARVEY OSWALD
11/21/2013 | Self

Posted on 11/21/2013 5:52:50 AM PST by Nextrush

"As the four left the Sheraton-Carlton to enter a taxi, they heard the unbelievable news blaring over the taxi's radio. President Kennedy and Governor John B. Connally had been shot and seriously wounded in the sun-drenched streets of Dallas. As the taxi drove off, the four listened in stunned silence. Tony Smith was the first to speak. 'My God,' he said, 'I'll bet one of those Birchers did it.'"

The reaction of Barry Goldwater's press Secretary Tony Smith to news of the assassination as quoted from Robert A. Novak's book "The Agony Of The GOP 1964."

The media template that had been laid for John F. Kennedy's visit to Dallas was so ingrained in the public's mind that even Barry Goldwater's press secretary thought a conservative had shot him.

CBS Southern Bureau Chief Dan Rather had suggested extra coverage for the visit because of the incident involving UN Ambassador Adlai Stevenson the month before and CBS sent him and another reporter to the city that day.

"The Soviet Union however is doing that. Tass has announced that extreme right wing elements were undoubtedly to blame."

Walter Cronkite on CBS-TV at 409pm Eastern time November 22, 1963.

Eventually the networks did get around to reporting the details of the assassin's background. At first he was called a "prime suspect".

"The man has been identified as Lee H. Oswald, chairman of a Fair Play for Cuba Committee. Now Fair Play for Cuba sounds more like a left-wing extremist organization than a right-wing one, but we have no positive identification of its point of view....."

Charles Collingwood on CBS-TV at 539pm Eastern time November 22, 1963

"Oswald as we said was local chairman of the pro-Castro Fair Play for Cuba Committee. He went to Russia in 1959 saying he was relinquishing his United States citizenship. He returned last year complaining that he was disillusioned. Whether or not he ever actually did ever get Soviet citizenship is not clear, but he did marry while in Russia and is said to have one or two children. His wife is in this country with him and was taken to the police station this afternoon also....."

Walter Cronkite on CBS-TV at 739pm Eastern time November 22, 1963.

Because a left-wing kook was responsible, the Left has been trying to rewrite history ever since with conspiracy theories about the "right wing" or someone else other than the leftist Oswald being the killer of John F. Kennedy.

One other interesting footnote. Cronkite mentions Oswald's wife being taken to the police station in Dallas.

She rode along with her baby and Oswald's mother in a Cadillac driven by the automotive editor of "Fort Worth Star-Telegram" newspaper. The newspaper's young police reporter got a phone call from Oswald's mother asking for a ride and he was getting an exclusive story on her as he rode along and accompanied Oswald's family into a room at the Dallas police station.

The reporter (Bob Schieffer) would later end up in the "CBS Evening News" anchor chair himself.

I'm sure the fact that the shooter was a commie sympathizer was a real disappointment for Dan.

Dan did get his “right wing” comments about Dallas on air during the afternoon hours before Oswald was identified.

He was crazy enough to go to the Soviet Union and then come back.

A nut who thought JFK was hurting Castro when in fact the Kennedy Administration cut a deal to end the Cuban Missile Crisis that withdrew US missiles from Turkey and guaranteed that the US would not try to invade Cuba or overthrow Castro.

Collectivists sure have used and abused that word, “fair” for quite a long time.

More info about Fair Play for Cuba Committee.

CNN had a special on Sun night about the assassination and I did hear one clip of an anchor or reporter mentioning that Oswald was a Communist. Ah. (We also hear longtime NBC reporter Tom Pettit, in the rush of reporting after Ruby
killed LHO, misidentify him as “Lee Harold (sic)
Oswald”.)

I am pretty sure that the commies didn;t even want to deal with Oswald. I was told the cops in Minsk had to roll him up most nights after he was drunk and obnoxious on the streets. They dispatched him from Moscow to Minsk for similar reasons, I believe.

I still have the two daily newspapers from the day after JFK was shot. They are old and yellow, but still in great shape.

He was just a crazy guy and the kind of guy who would kill and did kill on November 22, 1963.

"Because a left-wing kook was responsible, the Left has been trying to rewrite history ever since with conspiracy theories about the "right wing" or someone else other than the leftist Oswald being the killer of John F. Kennedy."

This is precisely correct.

ACLU member Lee Harvey Oswald gunned down NRA Life member JFK.

Oswald attempted to shoot Gen. Edwin Walker as well, it is Marina’s testimony and Marina never recanted the story with the HSCA or in an interview in 1989. Interestingly, Walker seemed to always believe Oswald had an accomplice when he was shot at that night.

For millions of younger Americans, the film “JFK” - which espouses the right-wing-conspiracy-military-industrial-complex-Oswald-was-a-patsy theory - is accurate history. The film even slanders LBJ, making him sound like part of the conspiracy.

I read an article in Popular Mechanics, years ago, by then Senator Gerald Ford, in which one of the bits of evidence was a thread caught in the buttstock of the Carcano rifle matched the shirt Oswald was wearing that day.

“The film even slanders LBJ, making him sound like part of the conspiracy.” don’t YOU think he(LBJ) was? Seems to me LBJ was the ONLY one to have “benifitted” from JFK’s killing.

If the entire world was Communist save a small bronze age island in the south pacific, that tiny Island would be the official cause of the problems that Communism cannot solve...Which would be a lot of problems...

The Commies would nuke the tribal people living on that island as “enemies of the people”

When that movie came out, a guy I worked with at the time saw it and said, "I'm so angry that I was never told all that history before!"

"You're an idiot," I noted helpfully.

Another fellow who also saw the movie chimed in, "I guess you don't think it's all true, since you don't read those facts in rightwing news sources like the New York Times."

This was all pre-internet, so the stupid pre-dates today's information technology. I guess people were just slower in their stupidity back then. Now, they're stupid at light speed.
