Watch the students of the Technion compete for the best Rube Goldberg device to....LIGHT THE MENORAH!
Technion students Eyal Cohen and Tomer Wassermann from the Mechanical Engineering faculty and Matan Orian and Dvir Dukhan of Industrial Engineering and Management take on the challenge to build a Rube Goldberg machine that lights the Chanukah menorah. Hanukkah is the holiday of miracles and here is another one.
One up indeed. ROTFL. THAT is absolutely amazing!
An honest question to Jews.... in my scripture ‘Jesus’ celebrated the feast of dedication in the winter..... since they didn’t have smart phones or the Gregorian calendar back then, wouldn’t the sun ( and what we now call solstice) would detail the season of winter?
Wouldn’t this still be fall? Was passover celebrated in spring or winter this year(according to the sun)
Love and kisses ---- Happy Hanukah!
Technion, what a great school!
I’m not a Jew, but I think I can answer this one. In the Hebrew calendar, Hanukkah begins on the 25 of the month of Kislev. This month corresponds with our November-December, depending on the year.
Geniuses-—I loved the gravey boat-—
so traditional!

Thanks fetus... but I guess then is that the Jews celebrated passover just after the equinox in March because my calendar rendering shows Kislev to be the next month in His calendar and we are still in the 8th month of His calendar if you count the new moon on or after the spring equinox to start the year ( which is what the sun and moon are here for to give us days, seasons, months) . it means they are celebrating about a month earlier than what scripture details because winter doesn’t occur until we get to the sun spot with what we call solstice... there is no way the new moon that they are counting from occurred after the spring equinox.... if passover is celebrated with a new moon before spring actually starts then they are off by a month for each and everyone of God’s feasts...
There is snow on the ground but this is still fall or autumn even in Jerusalem, if the sun and moon are used, correct ? Winter doesn’t start until the solstice and the agrarian societies back then would have known this, right? They are using calculators and not what God gave us for days, months and seasons...
I googled it. The March equinox took place on 3/20 this year, while Passover was observed between 3/25 and 4/2.
Ooooooo, nitro in a gravy boat!
Yup. Adds that special “tang” to the turkey!
Thanks former.. so that does mean the new moon that begins a count as described in Leviticus was still in the winter .... so the Jewish calendar is off by a month this year and passover was celebrated in the spring but the new moon sighting would have been 14 days still in the winter... I am curious if the karate Jews followed that same passover feast or celebrated it a month later with the first new moon in the spring would have been April 11th... I must now search myself... thanks again!
