I didn’t see any specs or rankings for the Plymouth, Fury III?

For civilian use, a turbo ‘T’ motor is the only way to go. For cops, you have a point about susceptibility to abuse. I don’t know how a turbo would fare under ‘cop’ conditions. Probably not so well and yes, expensive to replace.

No expert here but this is what I know. Turbo’s only start to spin up at a certain RPM. If you are idling or accelerating normally you will get the fuel economy of the smaller engine. If you get the revs up you get the power of the forced air. Using recirculating valves and other methods car makers have figured out how to limit the lag. Only down side is that turbo’s are expensive to repair/replace and generally more complicated than naturally aspirated engines.

That all said, the V6 in my 08’ Caddy has more power AND better gas mileage than the turbo’d 4 cylinder in an 06’ Mazdaspeed6 I owned before it. And the Caddy is a couple hundred pounds heavier.

3.5L Eccoboost Ford engine 365HP

Turbo is a toy. Yes, it will go fast, and yes, Ford appears to have brought some serious reliability to turbo systems... but they still require more maintenance, and repairs are significantly more expensive.

And do you know WHY they use Mustangs and Camaros?

Precisely BECAUSE there is no room for transporting detainees in the back.

They take no prisoners.

“If you run, boy, you just gonna die tired!”

At the inquiry, the question came up, “Why were there 56 bullet wounds in the deceased?”

“That was all the ammunition we had, your Honor.”

I’m not so sure I agree... The new “multi-displacement” engines with the variable valve timing do an amazing job of economizing fuel use.

I have a ‘13 Ram 1500 with the HEMI - if I drive conservatively, I can get mixed-driving milage pushing 18mpg. Straight highway 22+. That’s right there with the F150 with an eccoboost engine and its turbo.

Generally lap times are rolling start. Couple warm up laps, then best times out of the high speed laps, then a cool down.

90 MPH average in a ‘sedan’ is quite good. I don’t know that course very well as I was an east coast racer, but on most any race courses there are curves that take you down well under 40 MPH.

I have ‘thousands’ of laps under my belt at Road Atlanta in F-production and would love to have hit a 90mph average. I was in a 4 cylinder ...

my turbo MR2 on a racetrack

There is a walk around showing what the car is, and a session on lapping day chasing Corvettes and a Porsche. 131 MPH in 4th with 1000 RPM to go when I ran out of straightaway.

I can flog the car without mercy for 20 minute sessions. Gets 32 MPG at highway speed.

I did all the fabrication and tuning myself.

Small point, but cops are civilians also, even though they like to think of themselves as paras.

Oops. Search youtube for MR2_HPR, it comes right up. I need to go to the sandbox for remedial HTML.

Big Torque Rules...

The turbo’s push as much air as a 440 at a given RPM. The new V8’s have to get the RPM’s up to push that much air.

I’m not exactly sure what the justification is for using lap times to rank police vehicles ...

Think "because we have a hovercraft." [with or without eels]

It’s just a plain-jane Sterling Gray GT right now. Once I decide on what kind of stripes I want and I get them installed, then I’ll be ready to post pictures.

I’m a Whipple super-charged, fuel injected, big block kind of guy. Turbo’s always seemed like a goofy idea to me, but some folks swear by them.

If you can get it to produce the numbers, well... Good for you.

Redline anything too long and it’ll die.

Turbo’s used to char the oil used to lubricate their bearing due to the exhaust heat pumping through them. Wasn’t sure if they’d fixed that yet or not...
