One of my peeves is “mute” instead of “moot,” as in “That is a mute point.”

Why shouldn't points be mute? Isn't that less annoying than when they are talking?

“Oh contrair” gets me. So does “viola” instead of “voila” but the deadpan, phonetic “wa-la” is even worse. Loan words from French are hard, it would seem.

It isn’t “ax”, it’s “aks”.

The word “ax” is Old School. The work “aks” is New School.
