The First Lady, who was born on October 11, 1884, became a subject of controversy when people suspected she was romantically involved with journalist Lorena Hick Hickok. While the two never publicly addressed their relationship, their letters did nothing to dispel rumors.
1. March 5, 1933: Eleanor to Hick, on the first evening after FDRs inauguration

Social interaction is completely dominated by suspicion now. I blame 2 things... feminism and the internet.
Then go to one of the late Farrah Fawcett photos where her best friend was holding the dying Farrah in her arms.
Good points.
..cough.. What questions? This was widely known, about the proclivities of both of them, during their administration, only never in mainstream pressers.. It wasn't done, in deference to the office of the Presidency, and during the war, no less..
But, that didn't stop the chattering class.. Average folk didn't care for her in the least, not because she was butt ugly, and had a voice that was the equivalent of fingernails on a blackboard, she was the princess of darkness, of the Nanny State, to boot..
She had a cause du jour, and constantly nitpicked at an already suffering, war weary, populace.. Everybody, including Baptist ministers encouraged FDR's affairs with his mistresses, in sympathy for his having to deal with this witch.. Ha!
When women write to each other about how much they want to kiss each other, that seems beyond flowery discourse.
It has also made us restrained in our friendships for fear of being thought homosexual and being placed under that type of pressure.
A casual hug? You must be homosexual.
Let a friend cry on your shoulder? You must be homosexual.
Enjoy going out with one special friend rather then a group? You must be homosexual.
And so it goes.
We are gradually being cut off from our support systems. And it is not good to be alone.
We are gradually being cut off from our support systems. And it is not good to be alone.
That is exactly where the progressives want us, alone and dependent on a “big brother”....
palio-Huma.
Aiiieeee! It was bad enough at normal size!!!
Even FDR’s disability was suppressed by the drive-by of that day.
Indeed it was.. The Media covered for everything FDR, including his obvious, massive failures during the war years..
That was his request. His memorial in DC of him in a wheel chair negated his “written” wishes.
Hickok looks like Jodi Foster!
And all this time I thought she had a thing for men in wheel chairs having affairs with their secretaries.
Agree!
I don’t think you have read all the letters. Some of them are indeed very suggestive of a gay affair...especially when they went on vacation together.
Whoops......that's pretty unambiguous, if you ask me.
Ick...
