OK,
I like music, and I find that certain stories or comments that are posted on FR can be expressed with a simple "Riff".
I can post pics and .gif's but I would like to post an audio component as well.
I would like to be able to create a post that has a "Mouse-over" function that is a simple "start stop" for an audio link/file.
I know it can be done, but I'm not sure if FR allows it.
Mouse-over functions seem to be best suited in JAVA ?
I don't know.
A number of years ago, I found the "Joe Cartoon" website. It's changed since then, but at that time you could mouse-over certain icons and it would generate sounds. Very cool.
I want to post comments with imbedded links to audio.
The audio, clearly, needs to be hosted on another site.
The final result would be a text or image post, that when someone rolled their mouse over, it would start the audio. Roll off, it stops. Roll on, it starts again from the beginning.
Just a thought.
I think it could add to the FR posters intent/expression or position, by cutting down on some long winded explanation.
Mouseovers can’t be done on FR. You’ll have to hyperlink to the desired file and have the user click.
Can I post “inline” video with a start/stop ?
Afraid not. Only mods can post inline video.
So, you will need to post a link to some sort of player.

See, this is what gets me.
The vid’s or audio is hosted and served up elsewhere.
I’m new to this, It seems as though FR “only” serves up a “Static” page ?
Yep. Images will display, and you can use a few HTML tags. That’s about it.
This might help: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/2973937/posts
You’ll need to do that work on another webpage, on another site that you have. Then you can reference the link to that other site, in your Free Republic posting here.
I don’t think FR code allows for that, they keep it simple because it works. Interesting idea though.
and HG will come along and call you a blogpimp
Basic formatting:
Line break <br>
Paragraph break <p>
<blockquote>
Indented paragraphs</blockquote>
<font size=1>Smallest FR font</font> Displays as:
Smallest FR font
<font size=7>Largest FR font<font> Displays as:
Largest FR font
Or
Step font size up or down with <big>bigger</big>
and <small>smaller</small>
"Hidden" text: <font color=white> White font </font>
Drag cursor over blank area to highlight to read...

You can't just snag a favorite picture from a desktop folder...it has to be hosted someplace on line to be posted here.
Best bet is to save the image to an image hosting service, I use Photobucket. In Firefox right click and select "Copy image location", in Safari right click and select "Open image in new tab" and copy the address in the address bar. Other browsers have similar tricks.

Cynwoody adds this tip:You can pre-cue a YouTube video by adding a t parameter to the link. Like so:

Way cool! Thanks Cynwoody!
You get it !!!!
I’m kinda glad that FR’s HTML won’t allow mouse-over sounds. Last thing I need is to be reading FR at work and have farting sounds come from my cubicle. (Happens enough already!)
The original code here allowed more embedded functions in a post, but too many people put too much stuff that locked threads or competed with audio or video that conflicted with previous or following posts, so, links to this are okay, but just links
I can hear that. They are distinctly saying “C’mere, TigersEye!”
Ok, so Tinyurl is hosting a .Gif, and that’s cool.
I can do that with Photobucket.
If that Gif had and audio component it would be extremely annoying as it would loop etc...
would be cool to make either or the video/gif or audio, start and stop on a “mouse-over”.
It’s basically a shortcut that would let folks “view/hear” what’s in the link, without having to click through to some unknown site.
The link could be from TEXT or an Image or a Gif.
I’m not sure if FR either wants too, or can do this.
I don’t see a huge difference between a Gif/image link and an audio clip if it is restricted to either a “mouseover” or even a “start/Stop” function.
