‘Orton is a better Romo than Romo’: Fans sound off after interception kills Dallas Cowboys hopes

The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday night 24-22. The Cowboys starting quarterback, Tony Romo, was recuperating at home following back surgery, and backup quarterback Kyle Orton was at the Dallas helm. The Cowboys had a chance to regain the lead on their final drive of the game when Orton threw an interception...

Football fans, Dallas and otherwise, elevated Orton to instant Romo status:

Can't regain a lead you never had. Dallas trailed the entire game.

I know, but I felt so sorry for Orton.

The disgust should have been directed at the sleepy Cowboy booth and coaches, oblivious to the clock and the referee snafu, prior to the interception. I don’t know if any of these guys have even yet noticed it.

The announcers sure did and were apocalyptic, but not the Cowboy brass, that’s for sure.

As Woody Hayes once famously stated, ‘There are three things that can happen with a pass, and two of them are bad.’

The clock mistake happened on the prior drive and Orton ended up throwing a TD pass to Bryant on 4th and 8.

The clock snafu had no impact. Dallas scored on that same drive.

Orton did what he could with what he was given. And his was a position I would not want to be in - starting his first game of the year at the end of the regular season with a title on the line.

But that said, my two favorite teams are the Raiders and whoever’s playing the Cowboys. :)

GO NINERS!!!

Orton didn’t lose the game.

The NFL’s worst defense did.

I have been a Cowboys fan since 1959 when Clint Murchison signed Tom Landry just in case Dallas got a NFL franchise. Yes, it has been tough at times. Yesterday was not one of those times. The Cowboys did a remarkable job with a cobbled together defense, a tenacious offensive line, and a quarterback with his first start of the year. Kyle Orton played a great game. To come within 2 points of winning the NFC East against the high-flying Iggles is a hell of a statement under those conditions.

Slightly off-topic: Why does Dallas ALWAYS wear their white jerseys? I’ve hardly ever seen them play with their dark blue jerseys. Hell, do they even have alternate jerseys?

I always loved that quote. There are three things that can happen on a run, and two of them are bad too.

It is not reviewable. I am getting tired of people making comments about players who never played football, let alone at this level.

Romo has a QBR of 97 (8th in the NFL) this year which above average (87.6). He would have fewer interception if his receivers did not quit on their routes or fall down. If Peyton’s receiver quit on him like Romo receivers quit, Manning would never be blamed. There is no way a QB should ever be put in the position, after putting up 48 points, to have to win a ball game.

Who cares?

The IMPORTANT lesson here is that: The Bears. Still. Suck.

The white jerseys are traditional because theoretically the blue ones are bad luck.

Dallas wore the blue ones on Thanksgiving.

Dallas does have the retro jerseys,

however, because the NFL changed the rule this year allowing only one helmet shell (Not sure how the Bears got away with wearing the retro helmets earlier this year - without the logo), the retro jerseys would not have looked good with the current helmet. This is the hue I wish the dark jerseys were. The colors the NFL has are specific only to the NFL
