A Greenwich Village man clearing snow away from his truck Friday morning was carjacked in broad daylight, police announced.
As WCBS 880′s Alex Silverman reported, the snow had stopped falling and it was dead quiet on Christopher Street when the incident occurred just after 9 a.m. There were much fewer people out than on a normal weekday because of the snow.
According to police, a building superintendent was shoveling snow next to his blue Dodge Ram when a man in his 20s appeared and pulled out a gun. He drove off without firing a shot, police said.

“the same day the Detroit police chief openly encourages people to arm themselves”
now THATS an historic event YEARS in the making.
why things need to go as far as they do before people WAKE UP is beyond me
I have to wonder if duh mayor or NYC will ever follow suit..and why did e change his name anyway?
That's a positive sign.
About ten years ago, I was staying at a B&B in Kentucky when two guests turned up for breakfast and, horribly, related their story of witnessing a carjacking across the street from the B&B. Happily, we didn’t take this to condemn the entire state.
He used to be opposed to armed citizens after his 28 years on the LAPD but then he became police Chief in Portland Maine and it opened his eyes to the deterrent effect armed citizens have. He’s even drawing praise from Ted Cruz tonight.

But surely it is too late for this? And the only people left behind are Obama’s people, right? Basically, people with poor aim, lol!
Sadly, coming to a theater to the rest of us, I’m afraid...why couldn’t I have been my grandparents or parents generation and missed all of this?
ut happens all over the Nation
sadly it happens a lot in liberal cesspools where on isnt suppossed to defend themselves.

a more or less rare occasion in switzerland apparently when one never knows who is packing what...
On an added note, Christopher Street is in the heart of gay NY.
the natural....non pacifist ....outcome of an attempted car jacking

It happens everywhere all over the United States and has almost nothing to do with east coast or west coast or in the middle. It has all to do with people not bringing up their children with religion or morals, a sick, awful culture that encourages violence and decadence and, oh, well, I could go on, but you get my drift. I am sick and embarrassed for my country which I once revered. Are libs responsible? Yes; but we on the right did not do enough to fight them. So I count us (meaning me!) as responsible for this mess.
“a man in his 20s”
Never any real descriptions anymore. Maybe we’re supposed to already know at this point.
Wrongo! Christopher St. was ONCE the heart of gay NY. That was in the 1980s. The AIDs epidemic destroyed that. The new gay district of NYC is Chelsea (the 20s on the west side). I doubt this crime has much to do with the gay community.
Actually the population of Detroit is up a bit and violent crime is down in 2013 and they just elected the first white mayor in better than 4 decades.
They’ve got a hell of a hill to climb but they are doing it.
absolutely it happens everywhere...
and theres one way to make certain that it wont happen to me...or you

I don’t think it has anything to do with gays either, which is why I wrote “On another note”.
Odd that the description is so bare-bones. We know what that means.
“Yeah, right, this stuff never happens in other parts of the country.”

I was referring to the new mayor and the ceasing of “stop and frisk”
I love NYC and have a son that works there and a daughter who lived there.
.
Well, then, you need to make that clearer in your post, don’t you? There’s been an orgy of hate New York at FR - as there is almost every day.
Well then, that makes it perfectly OK.
“Well, then, you need to make that clearer in your post, dont you?

I guess so——we all make mistakes.
I’m in the Boston area and made my first trip to Manhattan in 1952 on The Owl.
I have a framed caricature of myself from 1960-—done by a Manhattan street artist.
Three members of my family went to the city last Friday—a 3 hour drive—just to see the lights at Rockefeller Center.
I really do love New York.

Must be an Amish guy taking advantage of the gun free zone!
