Actress Alicia Rhett, who was the oldest surviving cast member of the classic 1939 film "Gone With The Wind", died in South Carolina on Friday, officials at her retirement community said. She was 98.
Savannah, Georgia-born Rhett portrayed India Wilkes, sister of Ashley Wilkes in the award-winning film based on Margaret Mitchell's Pulitzer Prize-winning historical novel of the same name.
"Truly a beautiful woman, her passion for the arts and love of Charleston were unrivaled... Alicia was a kind and gentle lady," said Bill Trawick, CEO of the Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community in Charleston, where she had lived since 2002.

PING!
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that, her being 98, the cause was old age.
I could be wrong, of course.
Isn’t she the first of the new trio? Zaentz filled in the previous one.
India Wilkes - the old maid spinster who gets in a fight with Scarlett.

My 92-Yo FIL would slap you down for suggesting such a thing! (no kidding — he is a professional furniture maker and has arms, hands and fingers like steel bands)
and you would of course be wrong .. the cause of death could be listed as natural causes, heart cessation, any undying diseases (i.e. cancer, lung disease, diabetes) .
Did she receive an ObamaCare pill?
Yet most of the stars died quite young. Gable was 60, Leslie Howard was 50, Vivian Leigh was 53, and let's not forget, George Reeves ( aka Superman) died at 45.
It’s uncanny to watch the restored GWTW on flatscreen where it looks like it was filmed only recently, then to read that the child actress who portrayed Bonnie Blue Butler died in 2010 at age 76.
The original movie would have been seen by veterans of the Civil War. Even more uncanny.
Yet Olivia de Havilland lives on at 97.
more than likely
RIP.
The BluRay was made from scans of the original B&W technicolor camera negatives. Since the color information is encoded in metallic silver rather than color dyes in more modern film emulsions, it is much more stable than the color in tri-pack film stocks that were introduced in the 1950's.
Just doing the math...Wow!! You're correct! Civil War ended 1865. Let's say that someone was 18 when the war was over..GWTH premiered in 1939, 74 years after the Civil war ended..so that would make that person 92 years old..
Albert Woolson, who died in 1956 at age 109...was the last surviving Union Army veteran. He enlisted in 1864 as a drummer boy. His unit never saw combat. James Hard, who died in 1953, was the last surviving Union soldier who saw combat at First Bull Run, Antietam, and Chancellorsville. There are no verifiable records for Confederate soldiers.
Just think...Woolson lived through the Civil War, Spanish American war, WW I, WW II, and Korea..
Check out this 3 minute newsreel about the Atlanta premier of GWTW..at the 2:00 minute mark is shows some Confederate veterans arriving as guests of honor..
It used to be called consumption.
Didn't India Wilkes have a twin sister named Pakistan, with whom she was always quarreling?
