Nice stuff. I’d take it, if somebody volunteered to pay the rent. Just needs a bit of dusting and tidying up.

I was looking at the book trolly or case or whatever in one of the pics down the page.

It seems that Ikea was popular among the rich and famous in Paris in the ‘40s.

Tottally gorgeous. Love the French style with the carved garland of flowers, to die for.

I saw this quite awhile ago. It's worth looking at again. You'd think there'd be more dust although maybe some concierge kept it dusted.

Even though she kept the rent paid it’s still amazing that no one had the cause or just the curiosity to enter the apartment.

The first comment at the site put what I thought. I bet that stuffed Mickey Mouse is worth a pretty penny. 2.1 million Euros for her portrait. Nice... Does France have a death tax? Wonder if her estate had to sell it to pay that.

In 1942, the Germans and their collaborative French hosts were raping pillaging and plundering Parisians. Her apartment might have been a scene she would rather forget.

Also Porky Pig! Like another above mentioned, the nature of that room makes me want to know more about the Lady who rented it for so many years.

As a writer, I am mentally constructing a tragic story where she had that apartment as an 'entertaining' spot for a much beloved man (or woman) whom she never saw again due to the war, so she could not bear to enter the room again but could not bring herself to end the connections.

I wonder what the monthly rent was when she was still living there and what it is today. I’m guessing an apartment like that in Paris today would be considerable.

yes, I saw Porky, too. Interesting contrast to the heavy Louis XIV antiques.

You are clearly a romantic with your envisioned war romance story. As a cynical former New Yorker, I figured she had a “rent controlled” apartment and couldn’t afford NOT to continue paying its rent. For 68 years, no less! I wonder if she let others use it over those years? Gotta be a fascinating story there. Hope we learn it.

“Madame de Florian continued paying the rent until her death in 2010 at the age of 91. Despite paying the rent, she never returned.”

Amazing both the treasures and that she never went back in all those years...

Thanks for posting this.

All of the furniture from the time period remained just how she left it. It looks as if she was just there yesterday.

If this is so, she must've liked living in squalor. What a mess! (a priceless mess now, but still...)

I might write it as a short story, told by an aging retired WWII veteran, in remembrance of a great love affair related to him by a soldier he helped to recover from the coast of France in 1943. The rescued soldier would have related his love affair with a rich French Lady who harbored him from the Germans when he infiltrated France prior to the allied liberation. ... Come to think of it, the story may already have been written and used as theme for a movie! It sounds so good, it must have already been done.

I was thinking it could be a diary found by the grandchild of said soldier (too Bridges of Madison County-ish?)

Ooo, ooo.... or maybe, the story as recounted to the nurse who cared for the soldier in his last days.

Ah, but then, it's your story. LOL

how do these apartments get abandoned in the 30’s and 40’s and just now get opened? I have seen several articles like this over the past 50 years?

Is the law 50 years of non-payment? They must have rent control laws from Satan
