Walt Disney, Unlike Actress Emma Thompson, Didn’t Support a Child Rapist

Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson in Saving Mr. Banks

If you were browsing news sites yesterday, you may have come across Meryl Streep’s rant about what a racist Nazi anti-semite that Walt Disney was and what an amazing human being Emma Thompson is.

It’s easy to take shots at a dead man, but Walt Disney’s character was framed by angry left-wing union members in a town where mildly conservative politics led to cries of “Fascist”.

The evidence that Walt Disney ever supported the Third Reich is flimsy and hearsay. There’s far more evidence that his critics supported the USSR.

And the evidence for Walt Disney’s bigotry, by the standards of the day, is also less than overwhelming. That said, if Walt Disney was an anti-semite that was a flaw that he had in common with Emma Thompson who demanded a boycott of an Israeli Jewish theater in the UK expressing her dismay that the Semitic performers would befoul a Shakespeare festival.

I don’t recall Walt Disney ever organizing a boycott of a Jewish theater. That makes him less of an Anti-Semite than Emma Thompson.

Something else that Walt Disney didn’t do was support the rapist of a 13-year old girl, the way that Emma Thompson did when she signed a pro-Roman Polanski petition.

The petition dismissively described the charges against Polanski for drugging and then anally raping a 13-year-old girl as “a case of morals” dating back from 1978. “We demand the immediate release of Roman Polanski,” the petition concluded.

Emma Thompson eventually was talked out of keeping her name on the petition, but it didn’t stop her from signing it.

Things Emma Thompson supports; child rapists. Things Emma Thompson opposes; Israel.

That puts Walt Disney ahead of Emma Thompson in the “Not an awful person” race. And it goes without saying that Walt Disney is well ahead of her already in the talent race considering that Thompson’s accomplishment in life consists of playing Brits in American movies.

RE: WTH is Emma Thompson anyway?

From Wikipedia:

Emma Thompson (born 15 April 1959) is a British actress, comedian, screenwriter and author.

She first came to prominence in 1987 in two BBC TV series, Tutti Frutti and Fortunes of War, she won the BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress for her work in both.

Her first major film role was in the 1989 romantic comedy The Tall Guy. In 1992, Thompson won multiple acting awards, including an Academy Award and a BAFTA Award for Best Actress, for her performance in the British drama Howards End.

In 1993, Thompson garnered dual Academy Award nominations, as Best Actress for The Remains of the Day and as Best Supporting Actress for In the Name of the Father. She won a second Oscar in 1996, for best adapted screenplay for her adaptation of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility, a film directed by Ang Lee, in which she also played the Oscar-nominated lead role opposite Hugh Grant.

Oh my Goodness! People in Hollywood are vapid supporters of their friends or hold opinions different from each other.

Someone should make a movie about this.

Walt Disney films were reliably safe for children and family watching as long as the old man was alive. Disney Studios hasn’t been the same, since. No doubt Emma Thompson would say that that was bigoted of the old man, too.

Well I guess that explains it since I haven’t bothered to waste time with that self-aggrandizing exercise known as the oscars

Lets be fair..Emma Thompson is not the running her mouth about Walt Disney. .
It Merrill Streep talking about both.

So for all we know Thompson wants Streep to STFU! as much as anybody..
I see no call to run Thompson down for Streeps big mouth

seems Jewish organizations want to boycott eh movie due to Ms Thompson's anti-Semitism:

Major Jewish American Organization Calls To Boycott Saving Mr. Banks’

The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has condemned actress Emma Thompson and three dozen other British actors, for seeking the boycotting of Israel’s celebrated Habima Theater troupe, which is to perform later this year in a six-week theatrical festival taking place at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London. Thompson and her colleagues cite spurious human rights concerns but hypocritically fail to call for a boycott of the National Theater of China, which is participating in the same festival. The ZOA has condemned Thompson and urged people to boycott her recently-released movie, Saving Mr. Banks.

“...WTH is Emma Thompson anyway...”

Another completely replaceable, totally interchangeable, Cyberdyne Systems Standard Model 101(F) liberal.

Programmed with standard Douchebag Version 2.0 Software (without the Service Pack 1 “Actual Intelligence” Upgrade), which provides the ability of responding with tiresome, irritating, socialist talking points at the mere sight of something that disagrees with her ridiculous worldview.

I’m old enough to remember watching Walt on Sunday nights...
That Hanks plays him in this movie is the most offensive thing to me.
OBTW, the Mary Poppins books by Travers are wonderful for both kids and adults...again, much better than the movie which is good.

Of course Hollywood is going to bash Walt. When he was alive, his movies were wholesome family fare.

Isn’t Meryl Streep a world famous apple farmer? I may be wrong but I think she is the apple expert that testified in front of a Congressional panel as to the dangers that Alar caused in apples.

Re Walt Disney, I don’t know if he were or were not an anti semite. One thing I do know is he is dead and cannot defend himself. This line from Julius Caesar is appropriate for those who would comment about him:

“...The evil that men do lives after them;
The good is oft interrèd with their bones.
So let it be ....”

when she signed a pro-Roman Polanski petition.

when she signed a pro-Roman Polanski petition.

It was sad seeing the names on that petition.

I'm curious, though, the names of those in Hollywood who were asked and refused to sign it. If there were any.

The Left claims that Republicans are “anti-woman” and even akin to “rapists”. Yet Obama and the Hollywood Reds supported freeing Roman Polanski and absolving him of his crimes.

Even his victim still claims it WAS rape and not consensual. She’s moved on but has not relented on her claim or his guilt.

I frankly thought that Gary Sinise would've played Walt Disney better than Tom Hanks. Gary is more similar to Walt in height, build and general appearance, plus I think thar Mr. Sinise would've nailed the characterization.

IMHO
