Florida Pizza Shop Sells Pie That Includes Python Meat

Evan’s Neighborhood Pizza in Fort Myers, Fla., is known for its Everglades pie — a crazy concoction that includes of frog, alligator and snake toppings.

Would you like a ssssslice?

A Florida pizza joint is offering a special slithering pie topped with virtually every creature that lives in the swamp.

Evan’s Neighborhood Pizza in Fort Myers, Fla. tops its Everglades pie with a curious amalgam of animals including hog, alligator, tomato, frogs legs, swamp cabbage — and, for good measure, python.

“I'm very adventurous when it comes to food, that's for sure,” owner Evan Daniell, 52, told the Daily News on Thursday. “You have different flavors throughout each bite.”

The python, for example, has a chewy consistency and is marinated to remove the “gamey” taste of the meat. The frog's legs, which include the bones, have a cleaner taste than chicken, Daniell said. The idea was born in the pizza shop two years ago when the employees were discussing the invasion of pythons in the Everglades.

“It's a happy accident, it's about being creative,” said Daniell, who estimates he has sold roughly 150 pies in the last two years. “We're selling them left and right.”

Out-of-towners often get dragged to the Sunshine State slice shack by locals, his wife Avis Daniell noted.

Evan and Avis Daniell of Fort Myers created the pie when there was the python invasion in the Everglades a couple of years ago.

“The out-of-state people want to try it because it’s like a dare,” said the wife, 42.

The family is not done pushing the envelope with their pies, Evan Daniell said.

The husband has considered a “roadkill” pizza that would include raccoon, armadillo and even possum meat.

“I've yet to find a supplier,” he said.

The two admit they’re shocked at how well it’s sold. They’ve made more than 150 of the peculiar pies since they first put it on the menu.

The medium 14-inch Everglades pie retails for a pricy $45, mostly because python meat costs about $66 per pound.

Pace yourself when eating the packed pie, Daniell warned. “You gotta be careful, you don't want it to bite you the next day,” he joked.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if python meat was very, very good!

Low in fat, good protein content, free-range (make that free-swamp!)

Street food in Olongapo was an adventure. Never could be sure what you were getting in your barbecue but it did wash down well with San Migoo. :=)

Does it try to strangle you from the inside while you’re swallowing it?
