Girl flees home after discovering real groom is nearly 80 years old
Like in films, a Saudi father brought a young handsome man to his house and asked him to pose as a would-be groom for his 17-year-old daughter, who quickly agreed to marry him when she saw his face. After the marriage contract was finalized, the girl discovered that he father had cheated her as the real groom is nearly 80 years old.
As her father prepared his daughter to board a flight to travel to her husband in another city in the conservative Gulf Kingdom, she detracted his attention and fled home, heading straight to the police station.
The unnamed girl in the southern Saudi province of Jazan told police that her father deceived her when he brought a young man and asked him to pose as her suitor.
She said that after the couple were allowed to briefly see each other in line with Islamic law, she told her father that she agreed to marry this man.
“She told the police that after the marriage contract was finalized, she looked into it and was shocked to see that the husband’s age is around 80 years,” Sabq daily said.
“She said that her father intentionally brought a young handsome man so she will give her approval of the marriage in accordance with Shariah (Islamic law), which requires brides to agree to the marriage…she said that after she agreed to marry this man, her father bought the Maazoun (Sheikh) a few days later and finalized the marriage between her and the presumed young groom…she said it was all a game played by her father and that young man to marry her to an old man.”
The paper said the girl provided the police with tape recording of her father threatening her to travel to her “ageing” husband in the western Saudi town of Medina.
It quoted religious sources as saying the girl’s marriage could be terminated because it involved deception.”

Here is my theory on that. If you have ever been in an islamic area you get the call of the muezzin at the crack of dawn. I experienced it in Jordan and it ain’t fun. I think it sets up for a grumpy rest of the day.
