COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Police have released the body-camera video from Officer Spencer Mortensen's shooting of Eric B. Johnston last Aug. 25.

The video shows viewers what Mortensen saw and heard before fatally shooting Johnston, 35, five times in rapid succession. It shows Mortensen asked Johnston about eight times to put down a knife or knives before Mortensen shot him.

Nope, the factually oriented. You do not want a cop to shoot you dead? Do not walk towards them with a knife in your hand and ignore repeated orders to drop the knife.

That you are already into name calling demonstrates how weak your arguments are. Sad.

The "repeated orders" from this cowardly POS lasted FOUR SECONDS.

Better solution: if you want to peacefully resolve a non-violent situation, DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES let the jack-boots into your home.

“The facts are that the cop did exactly what he was trained to do. That is why no prosecution.”

I think you might have found the problem... I don’t think the proper solution to crazy people is to train a cop to position himself so he can kill the crazy person and not be prosecuted.

Don't cops learn that if they slowly back out, the guy would follow him and you could tackle him ?

I don't think so. They will shoot you from 50 feet away while you are standing still.

Good job men

I know. At that range he could have fired a non lethal shot to the shoulder or something. They must dream about it -

In the beginning of the video, there are at least three mentions of "He will hurt himself" or "He will cut himself"

The cop goes in and repeatedly calls out and assures him it's no big thing ... just a car crash ... lemmee help you

(Remember ... the cop is previewed to understand it is a scared guy wanting to harm himself ... not others)

The guy comes out slowly ... apparently with a knife (can't see but it COULD be to his own throat) .. who ya gonn'a believe ?

The cops voice escalates into panic

and shoots the guy 5 times.

You can use all the words you want ... he came at me with a knife ... are words that do not match the cops' own video as far as being threatening is concerned.

The cop was not threatened ... he was disobeyed, and THAT by god is a mortal sin a cop CANNOT allow !

My daughter is a cop in Texas. She has no taser. They won't let anyone on her force have a taser. They think it's too violent. She can beat them with her Asp, or her Glock .40, that's pretty much it. She now has a 12 ga in her car and will soon get an AR15 for the trunk, but no taser.

There are highly paid officials that make these decisions.

I forgot, she also has pepper spray, but that only works on children.

Dial 911, expect someone to die.

I'm old.
It used to be considered “reasonable” to call the cops to defuse any dangerous situation, before it got out of hand, and someone got hurt or killed.

Nowadays?

If you call the police for any reason, you have created an even more potentially dangerous situation.

It wasn't that way in the past, but it is now, everywhere.

democrats always talk like that

They're givin a scenerio or even a set of facts and they re-word it to adjust for their agenda.

No one here has said nor implied that the cop should commit suicide (see? I can re-arrange the thought pattern too .. )

If that cop responded to his training, his training overrode and superceded the ability to think rationally.

My bother, one of Boston's finest, dead now some 20 years, loved to fight.
He'd tell us stories (and practice with his claw, now outlawed, on us,) his younger brothers and being stationed at 13, in JP, had plenty of opportunity to tumble.

That's what cops did in the 50's and 60's .. you fell down the steps, your honor, while bringing him in .....

= = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
That carried over to the Navy when ‘escorting’ a thief or someone with roaming hands to the showers to get his ‘deckplate justice’ shower administered by those that shared his living space.....

At mast, the Capt would ‘always’ say “What happened to SN Jones?” With the answer being “Sir! SN Jones must have fallen up the ladder on his way to the shower”.
“OK”....

Course I am sure SN Jones didn’t really care (at that point) that 30 years prior he would more than likely have been the ‘leading character’ in a Man Overboard Drill...that is if someone would have spotted his sorry self after being thrown over the side.

That was before the leftards started allowing women to pretend they could be police officers.
