From samurai swords and hand grenades to a dead iguana - the crazy things people throw away in their rubbish!

From samurai swords and hand grenades to a dead iguana and a bag of drugs – it's amazing what turns up in people's rubbish.

Staff on the sorting line of recycling company Casepak's plant in Braunstone Frith have come across these crazy items as they sift through the tonnes people put in their recycling boxes, bins and bags.

The company handles recycling for councils and businesses across the country at its Leicester base.

There's not much that fazes the company's production manager, Greg Paradowski, after the variety of unusual items that have turned up on the sorting line.

Greg, 29, of Groby, said: "The biggest shock factor we've had was when we had an iguana, which was about a metre long and which had been dead for about a day I would guess. We also had part of a deer, it was quite big, about half the animal, and in a significant state of decay – not very pleasant.

"That's just in recycling bags and bins so I don't know what you might find in the stuff going for landfill.

"Occasionally we get dummy hand grenades, but you don't know they're dummies when you first look at them so we need to call the police and the bomb squad.

"We also get the occasional air rifle or air pistol and BB gun which we also report to the police."

He said other weapons found in included a crossbow, axes and medieval swords.

"One was a two-handed sword, like the sort you would see in the film Braveheart, about two metres long," said Greg.

"You wonder how people get them in their recycling bins without them being noticed."

The team at Casepak also often find items that they know people had not meant to put in their recycling.

Greg added: "We do get a fair amount of wallets, valid driving licences and passports – and even new and unsigned credit cards. We make efforts to send them back to their owners, but if we're not sure they are destroyed."

But they also think people are being a bit more careful with what they put in their recycling bins.

Greg said: "Television programmes such as Cash in the Attic and Bargain Hunt made people aware of what things might be worth."

Company shareholder Arlene Jordan, said: "We collect from several centres and we have had guns and hand grenades and even bags of drugs.

"On those occasions, we call the police."

Imagine working the line at the Recycling Center the Day before Christmas Eve, and finding this:

SAN ANTONIO — An arrest was made Tuesday evening in the capital murder case of the infant boy found dead at a San Antonio Waste Management center last month.

Nidia Alvarado, 25, was arrested at an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Jackson Keller Rd. She is accused of killing and discarding her newborn baby boy.

Alvarado has been charged with capital murder and illegal entry, since the suspect was residing in the United States illegally, according to the San Antonio Police Department.
