Personally, I give the guy a break. He’s a Stanford grad who stuck around an extra year to work on an MBA. They interviewed him moments after the biggest game of his life and he made the biggest play of his life. He was still in game mode, where they were in a heated, trash talking battle.

Stick a microphone in a lot of guys..especially defensive players...while they are in game mode, they would be intense, too.

Was it good to do..no...he should have waited or taken a second to calm down.

This reminds me of the Bart Scott interview a few years ago during the playoffs where he was still clearly in game mode. He didn’t stoop so low to criticize his opposition like this one, but he was mentally still in the game in intensity and cadence like this.

For heaven's sakes. It's a football game

I thought it was hilarious. The guy seemed genuinely angry and willing to express what he was really thinking. I'm actually sick of all of the dumb answers to dumb questions we usually get after sports events.

Angry?..these guys are making boat loads of money while playing the game they love. There is no reason to be angry. They should be very appreciative that the fans are still willing to pay so damned much for their bloated salaries!

I wonder what is was that Crabtree had said before the game about Sherman to have him all fired up?

Sherman is actually a pretty bright cookie. Writes a good column on MMQB. Crabtree has been talking him down in the press lately, probably jawing him in the game. People generally aren’t at their most considered when pumped full of adrenalin after the biggest play of their career. He was much calmer in later post game interviews once the adrenalin went away.

“If he played baseball would get a high and tight fastball.”

—Justin Verlander via twitter

There’s a reason you don’t have baseball players gyrating in celebratory chest-thumpery after hitting a single or moonwalking down to first after drawing a walk.

The NFL players can’t self police themselves with the penalty system, modern officiating and a million reviewable camera angles. It would have too much effect the outcome of the game, especially as every game is so important in the NFL season.

Thus a league full of players who have no problem with dancing self-congratulatory buffoonery like triumphal capering and hooting after almost every play that is even marginally successful on some level, even if it’s just falling on a loose ball.

Freegards

Why a thug want to be? I read the guys bio I didn’t see anything thuggish. Perhaps you have some evidence. If not stfu.

I was watching this football game last night and this Sherman guy did an interview with this chick. He was very angry. "THUG" was my first thought. Before that interview, I didn't know anything more about the guy than his name and position. That's MY evidence.

If he doesn't like his image, tough cookies. He made that bed. Perception is reality and all that. If you don't like what I or anyone else thinks of him, oh well. I like classy warriors. Intensity between the whistles gets a wide birth for me because I played the game at the collegiate level. But the passion, aggression, intensity and adrenaline fueled, energetic rage is a controlled one for most pros. That is, they turn it off when the game is over and dial it down between the whistles.

Uncontrollable anger and a demand for respect = thug in my book. Because of your post, I did check, however. He does not have a criminal record but did come from the thug streets of Compton. Still, I won't be advocating his appointment as a role model for young athletes. Sorry.
