HP brings back Windows 7 by popular demand

HP really wants people to buy a Windows 7 PC instead of a Windows 8 machine. The PC maker has been emailing customers over the weekend noting that "Windows 7 is back." A new promotion, designed to entice people to select Windows 7 over Windows 8 with $150 of "savings," has launched on HP’s website with a "back by popular demand" slogan. The move is clearly designed to position Windows 7 over Microsoft’s touch-centric Windows 8 operating system.

I just bought an Asus Ultrabook w/1920 monitor - better aesthetics and build quality than Apple Air.

I came with Win8 and I immediately upgraded to 8.1.

My old netbook was Win7 and, although I never used Win8, the new 8.1 is VERY nice. The “Start” menu is different with the tiles but I can easily switch to a “normal” desktop.

Blazing fast with a Full (1920) HD monitor with extraordinary resolution.

I forgot to add I have successfully installed Office 2003 Pro including Outlook 2003 on the new Win8.1 Asus Ultrabook - they all run perfectly.

Dell has been selling W7 all along. I have a W7 system laptop and just replaced my 8 year old XP lappy with a new DEll W8.1. There is a W8 learning curve.

I'm not surprised ... both are MS products.

My point was old, 2003 programs installed & operate perfectly on Win8.1 and is contrary to the myth perpetuated by MS attackers.

Sadly, apple phanboiz are even worse....

I use Start 8, it makes Win 8.1 usable but the right menu pops up about every other time I use the mouse, I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong but it is very annoying.

If you have a touchpad, and a touchpad properties program, go into it and disable the edge swipes under gestures.

Android 4.3 update on my Note 2 broke tethering (provider approved) and wifi hotspot on Windows 8.1. It works perfectly on Windows 7 and Lubuntu.

Hmmm ... I think it's less to do with positioning Windows 7 over Windows 8 and more to do with giving consumers an option to save $150. There's also the fact that many folks don't like Windows 8 for a plethora of reasons and this is a smart marketing move by HP to attract customers away from other PC vendors who may not be offering this option.

A fine example of Capitalism at work, IMO>
