This was the fourth year in a row that Global Village had marked Martin Luther King Jr. Day with a sale and a sign in its Superior Street window proclaiming: 25 percent off everything black!
Rachel Mock, proprietor of the Duluth store, said she had received no complaints in the past, but this year proved a different story, thanks in large part to a social networking firestorm touched off by a Facebook post.

They could appropriately have held a “red sale.”

slipping on “black ice”; and falling into a "black hole"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
True story. A few years ago a Dallas city councilman heard the term "black hole" in a council meeting and went ape (bleep). He threw down the race card as fast as he could.
Isn't it amazing that a grown man - supposedly educated - could never have heard of a black hole?
True story. I work part-time at Walmart in the connection center, but we help out with pretty much any dept. that is nearby. One day, I had a customer "of color" that wanted to purchase a piece of furniture that was black (probably a shelving unit, but not remembering exactly what it was now). So, as I'm loading the box onto a cart, the woman comments on the fact that she's offended that they would use the word "negro" on the box to describe the item. Given the fact that all of our packaging is now covered with Spanish language, I inform her that "negro" is the spanish word for "black". Her response? "I don't care, it's still offensive and they shouldn't use it!" At that point, I told her to take it up with the company that makes the product.
“does the one drop rule apply here?”
No, no, it’s any THING black, not any ONE black.
I’m sorry, I think this was kind of a silly idea.
Do they do a green sale for St pat’s, etc (too lazy to think of other examples)?
They could have said 3/5ths off.*applause!!*
And I love educating people on that "3/5 of a person thing" in the Constitution. The knee-jerk-offended victimology crowd love to point to this as an example of racism... and, of course, they are wrong, as always. It is the ANTI-slavery crowd (also known as the Republicans) that pushed for that 3/5 clause, because otherwise the Southern states could simply import enough of a population from Africa to get enough seats in Congress after the next Census to take control. It was done to HELP black sand to help END slavery, and the racist idiots today all are just SURE that it was meant to "diss" blacks. Morons.
(And speaking of morons allowing one political party to import millions of people in an effort to change the balance of power in Congress via the Census... could someone please have a sit-down with Mr Boehner?)
Oh, I see, so like polka-dots or something. I wonder. I actually love prints with a black background, maybe I could get a bargain!
