NFL commissioner Roger Goodell talked to the leagues network on Monday about a number of different topics, several of which included possible rule changes.
One of the issues discussed was the idea of eliminating extra points after touchdowns, which Goodell says are just about automatic.

They could go back to the original extra-points rule (still used that way in Rugby) where the kick has to be taken on a line with the point where the touchdown was made. That makes it far from automatic.
He is wrong. THe choice of 1 or two point conversion adds a lot of int3erst to the game.
Id the thinks the PAT kicks are too easy, then move them back.
I’ve not really noticed the females on the sideline. I mean, I know they’re there, but are they terrible or something? EEO hires?
They could always go to mid-field and use this technique.

Nobody would get injured then...
Those 20 yards are sort of like welfare checks. If you’re not willing to work, you still get something of value.
How about making a touchdown 7 points, and then give the scoring team the option of going for 2 more, but if they fail they lose a point?
"NFL" becomes........."National FANTASY League"
To make extra points more challenging the cheerleaders should shed their tops and dance in the end zone and provide distraction to the kicker.
And that would also eliminate the 2 point conversion. Leave it alone, or maybe make it a longer and more difficult kick.
This idea mostly fits into the “if it ain’t broke” category.
I think you're right, and the women also act as hostesses asking quesitons in more and more of the sports discussion shows.
And I don't like any of the interviews with coaches and players just before a game, at halftime, or during a game. It adds nothing for me and is actually a distraction.
I’m happy to report that my team’s kicker missed one of the eleven.
You heard Bender, Sherman. Set the Wayback... for a 1950s bar.
Right away... Mr. Peabody--
All right, Sherman. Make it... so!
Bobby Layne, old Pard! Sit down... and have a drink or nine--
Sorry, Bendy, I can only have a couple of quick doubles... it is halftime and we are only three points ahead.
If the NFL is really interested in making extra points and field goals more exciting, here's a novel idea: do away with the position of "kicker" entirely. You can't really legislate a position like that out of the game, but you can effectively eliminate by adopting a simple rule: All extra points and field goals must be attempted by an offensive player who was on the field during the previous play. This would bring the NFL back to the days when a running back or other starting player would often serve as the team's placekicker, and kicks weren't nearly as automatic as they are today.
That would eliminate most of the job openings for slow white guys in the NFL, LOL.
Talk about f*cking stupid - how are you supposed to go for a surprise 2-point conversion if you don’t start off by trying to kick for the extra point?
Good grief.
I think that eliminating Roger Goodell from the Commissioner’s Office would result in more fun and frivolity in the NFL. Might even cut back on the growing Thug culture, as well.
If a team scores the winning touchdown on the final play of regulation, the rules say that they are still supposed to line up and attempt an extra point. This doesn't apply if the winning TD is scored in overtime, though.
Go figure.
Weird considering that if it comes down to point differential for a tie breaker, the overtime points count.
So I guess that makes it advantageous to score in regulation.
LOL. Right. And it would eliminate most of the job openings for small foreign-born players, too.
