The Weekly Gardening Thread is a weekly gathering of folks that love soil, seeds and plants of all kinds. From complete newbies that are looking to start that first potted plant, to gardeners with some acreage, to Master Gardener level and beyond, we would love to hear from you. This thread is non-political, although you will find that most here are conservative folks. No matter what, you won’t be flamed and the only dumb question is the one that isn’t asked. It is impossible to hijack the Weekly Gardening Thread. There is no telling where it will go and... that is part of the fun and interest. Jump in and join us!

NOTE: This is a once a week ping list. We do post to the thread during the week. Links to related articles and discussions which might be of interest are welcomed, so feel free to post them at any time.

Winter greetings to everyone from Missouri. We have warmed up to freezing today. The weather and wind chill has been bad enough that most of the area schools were closed several days this week due to cold.

Our grand daughter's school was open, since their bus routes are not as bad as the other area schools. I did have a couple of days in the 40s that I was able to get outside and do some work.

I saw that a huge strip of Texas was in the deep freeze also. Hope everyone everywhere is doing ok in the freezing weather.

We contiue to get catalogs, and many are from places that are new to us. I am trying to get the indoor cleanup done in January, so that I can spend more time in February planning and organizing for this years gardening season.

Hope you are all doing well. Have a great weekend. God Bless.

41F here now, and bright sunshine. It sounds like it's colder in the south of the state.

I saw pictures on the news that showed cars and streets that appeared to be covered with ice.

Not around DFW. I'd love to have some precip, even ice. It's dry here.

It’s 35.7 right now and the weather device is pointing to a cloud with something coming out of it but that isn’t happening at this time.

greeneyes, sockmonkey on the other thread said her bunching onions, since last night, have brown tops and she asked if she should cut those off. Please answer that for her as I don’t know what she should do, if anything.

I am not certain. The brown tips could be a fungus, or pest, but I am thinking it might also be from cold. I would probably cut off the brown tips and dispose of them.

LOL. I always think of global warming when the weather is freezing. I heard on the news that Alaska was warmer than some areas of Texas.

I think it might have been around Houston? The ice path started in the mid south west and went across the state and a little more to the north and east, on the picture I saw.

Hope you get some good rain/moisture so your garden can flourish this season.

Yikes. You are dedicated. I won’t go outside, unless it is at least 45F.

47, cloudy, and windy. -2 two nights ago, flurries, and windy. Almost up to freezing yesterday, and windy.

Ground is frozen solid, and a lot of it still has over 6” of frozen snow on it, though the south facing slopes are pretty much clear, and finally dried out: they had turned to semi frozen mud.

Time to start a new pot of cat grass: the natives are restless.

LOL. I am getting a little cabin fever myself, the sun is shining and the green winter rye makes it look like spring. However, the temps today clear that up in a hurry. The weather says we have another artic blast coming this way.

They’re the firt ones “up” this season (or pre-season.)
I’m going to start some live oak acorns I picked up last fall in San Antonio. They’re not native here.
