Prediction; The Return of Televised Cigarette Commercials, but this time for Marijuana!
Lee Martell

Posted on 01/24/2014 6:40:53 PM PST by lee martell

I'm making a prediction that, judging by trends, may happen this year or within the next five years. I recall in 1973 or so, when tv commericals for cigarettes were outlawed. There were some very creative ads back then, but times and expectations change. Now, it is illegal to show cigarette commercials on TV. However, we are living in a time where things that were once exceedingly clear-cut and unambiguous have become flexible. Somethings have almost taken the opposite meaning compared to in the recent past. If a time traveler walked up to you in 1973 and said in a little over 40 years, gat marriage will become a highly discussed concept, ruled legal in some states, not legal in others. Careers will be made and unmade based on the political fight to write this into law. I would not have believed them, but here we are. I personally do not agree with the concept of gay marriage, but nonetheless, this topic is being seriously discussed, maybe even overly discussed.

The same with Marijuana. Some states are in stages of decriminalizing it, hoping to use the taxed income for other projects. I also hear some major cigarette makers have already designed a marijuana cigarette for public consumption. It would not surprise me to see the potential profits sway legislative minds across the states. State policies could be changed enough to allow for advertising of these pot smokes. I am not advocating or condemning the pot smokes in this writing. This is not about what my opinion is. I'm describing to you the force of current trends. The idea of charity or altruism has fueled many changes on what is considered acceptable speech and communication today. Think of the walks for Breast Cancer research that go on today. Who would have thought you could get a professional football player to wear something bright pink on the football field, but it has happened many times. The notion of working for a worthy cause allows many people to accept the unusual. I can easily imagine a whole new spin on cable shows, information or holestic health advice. This may even overtake the Cooking Network in ratings, at least for a while. We all shall see how close this comes to reality. If not this year, within the next five years, unless there is some huge health scare, scary enough to push that Genie back down into the bottle.

Marijuana loses potency when it is ground up.

No pot smoker would buy marijuana that is not fresh & the buds intact.

They could pay NFL quarterbacks to mention their names during the count.

It is interesting(to say the least) to see how regular cigarette smoking has become anathema but marijuana smoking is “wonderful”.

Six to ten years from now, there will be a Medical Marijuana commercial televised during The Super Bowl, The announcer will be wearing a long white Lab Coat, bearded, balding and looking very serious. The ‘patient’ will be some dainty little fuzzy haired lady sporting Pince Nez/ John Lennon glasses on a chain wearing a Lilac Cardigan sweater with a Cameo Brooch, who ‘just wants pain relief, but has a pre-existing issue not covered’. Don’t laugh! Just remember where you first read about the very idea.

In the 1960's, we figured that Acapulco Gold would be a brand name for marijuana cigarettes once the drug was legalized.

MaryJane loses potency when ground up you say? Not a problem to those determined to get their ‘fair share’ of THC. There are many pills, mucous membrane sprays, chewing gums, ointments, and The Mother’s Earth Big Pot Recipe Book. There are Time Release Brownie mixes. Some of these desserts and concoctions have been around for decades, just sort of behind the scenes, for various and sundry purposes.
All this will be regulated and taxed. There will be roughshod confiscations for unlicensed producers, such as those raids on farms today for the heinous crime of selling raw milk.

TV ads for weed will be here a lot sooner, IMO. But they’ll air first during the Super Bowl, this is true.

Young happy couples out rollerblading while toking, Sixties burnout duos with matching grey ponytails & granny glasses enjoying doobie, the ads will be wholly multigenerational.

Like wow, man.
