Sorry for the vanity. I want to take my truck, my pop-up camper and hit the road. My one bedroom apartment feels like a prison cell and I'm tired of psying too much money for cable re-runs. I have my trusty laptop but I'll want internet. Any ideas on how to connect to the world while I'm enjoying some great bass fishing?
All suggestions are highly appreciated.
TIA.
Michigan is great for a visit with hunting and fishing that can’t be beat. (ice fishing this time of year)

Get a cellphone with hotspot.
Google portable satellite internet rental

Bright House has a ton of wifi hotspots in certain parts of the country. If you’re a Bright House customer you can access those free. They have a map on their site.
The hardware for the straight talk one is about a hundred dollars at wally and then it is $80 for a month. No contract so you can just put time on it as needed.
I've used the Verizon set up for years in the high sierras. If I can get cell service I can be on-line with my laptop.
I also have a 12V charger for my laptop. They are pretty cheap now on Ebay.
Prepare to pony up for 4G LTE service with tethering as part of your plan. Verizon has the widest coverage but they are a pain in the ass. I have T-Mobile and am happy with it. Unlimited minutes, messaging and data with 4.5 GB of tethering and mobile hot spot for $99.00. I’m in a city. Not so good outside of town.
I would love to come back and see how the archery white tail hunting stacks up against archery mule deer and black tail hunting.
Here is a fishing spot

Wow. That’s a lot of big deer all in one place. Ours don’t get anywhere near that big.
What’s the purpose of the “buck pole”? I’ve never encountered that before.

Woo hoo!! And the first 27% is in!! Thank you all very much!! |
A buck pole is basically a combination of storage as deer are processed, and a bragging rights thing. Basically anyplace that butchers deer will have one.
That one is in Brooklyn Mi.
No contract; several bandwidth plans.
Be careful to verify that they have coverage where you intend to be. They piggyback their service on Sprint’s system. Sprint is not the #1 3G/4G provider — still, I use DataJack for my internet in a rural area in Central Texas and all told, I’m happy with it.
For FReeping, email, and *most* web browsing, the connectivity is just fine. But if you’re a fan of sreaming media, you won’t be happy with it.
thanks
I would suggeest getting on some of the truckers’ forums and see what they’re using.
Most of the large companies have sat hook-up for comm, but many drivers still have their own lap-tops for personal use.
I used one of those little mobile Verizon units belonging to a customer, and the throughput just sucked. Not sure if it was my location at the time (town of about 25,000) or a limitation of the system itself.
