OK folks, this whole winter is getting out of hand. I write from the frostbitten thumb of the enchanted mitten, otherwise known as Michigan. I went to go to lunch a couple of hours ago and it was -1 out with a strong south breeze that puts the wind chill at about -30. I shudder to open my next heating bill. I should be able to tell it from the other mail by weight alone. We have absolutely smashed the January snowfall records (at approx. 38" if I recall) and there still a few days left to bulk up the record a little bit. we are in the top 5 for coldest January on record and are on track to reach even higher. I also have the county road commission on speed dial. For the second time in a 2 week period the plow has absolutely decimated My mailbox. I found my mailbox 2 houses down with My mail scattered about it in a 15 foot blast radius. And in the middle of all this one of My fur-babies died (kitty). I'm not looking for sympathy. I'm just venting and maybe looking for just a little commiseration. So how are you holding up in this frigid season?
We won't break 32 today, but we aren't in the minus numbers fortunately.
As long as it will be above freezing in the Meadowlands on Sunday, I'm a happy camper.
We’re supposed to have snow later today here in southern North Carolina. Cebu, I have wine.
Where’s this Global Warming they keep talking about?
You folks sound like Winter Prisoners, those poor souls who spend all winter looking out the window and swearing at the realities.
Me, I’m going ice-fishing, or maybe just ride around on my machine for awhile.
“Embrace the suck,” is the saying, I believe. Enjoy life.
My lawn looks like crap. We really need rain.
Here in Central Florida, during the fall/winter, we mow our lawns about once a month and they still look fairly green. One tree in my side yard is still trying to lose its leaves. Azaleas have been blooming in my hedge. It's sort of a mixed up fall/winter/spring combination. Having lived farther north most of my life, I still don't quite understand the seasons or lack thereof. Thermometer says it's 83 degrees on the back porch, but it's not warm enough to swim (unless you're Canadian).
The above is a mixture of gloating and confusion.
One of my sisters used to live way out east Carolina. One year a big snow came and they had to shovel their drive with dust pans and wear plastic bags on their feet and socks on their hands.
Hah! Last night, the ACTUAL temperature in Fargo was -30°F. Who needs Wind Chill? Now, at 1:00 PM, it’s -2°F.
You can see the fatigue in people’s faces, either from being outside or from cabin fever.
The Midwestern icefishing tourney was on Wamplers lake near me Sunday.
And they whine about how cold the superbowl will be.

I just paid more than $7000 for heat on our building, and we had to cancel work for our employees 3 days 2 weeks ago because we couldn’t get the building over 40 degrees inside!
My home heating bill was $700 for the same period.
But, we spent 2 weeks in CA on family business, and I’m so glad to get back to the snow. The Central CA weather was BORING. 20 degrees over night with a high of 70 degrees in the daytime. And dry, dry, DRY. The rivers are bone dry. The irrigation ditches are bone dry. The reservoirs have just inches of water on the bottom. And there is a fine particulate haze that hangs over everything. It’s call dust from the dried up yards and fields.
I spend the last two and a half weeks up in New Hampshire. For the first time since I was a kid I shoveled snow.
The first snowfall was awesome. About the end of the first week of below freezing temps to 5 or so I was done.
I’ll never whine about 40 degrees in Florida again.
July, huh? The last of the snow piled up in the parking lots should have melted by then.

Glad I don’t live there
Yes, right before you succumb to hypothermia.

The butthurt is strong with this winter. Drove into work today in balmy -17 degree weather.
LOL! Sounds like when they had the snow in San Antonio, my first year of college (January 1985?). We took plastic trays from the cafeteria and went sledding on the freeway ramps.
I just moved my family to FL this past end of summer. I am relishing in the degree heating days I moved from in Ohio this winter. These threads fill up with about half the posters gloating about their warm climates.
Hi everyone up north!
Just as soon as my pension kicks in.

That’s your source? So in other words... you’re talking out your a**? :-)
Just kidding. I sympathize with y’all up there in the frozen north. ESPECIALLY with the propane shortage and all.
On the other hand, I am warming myself in the glow of anxiety from all those global warming yo-yos.
Great advice! However, I think I’ll clean out a cupboard, rather than go out in the snow. I’m content to watch the snow through the window. But, I like your ‘tude!
